Just shut up!.
Now today the last space shuttle landed safely which is always a novelty for those on board and everyone watching!, anyway there is was swooping down out of the sky and as soon as it touches down the back slapping and crowing by NASA kicks off about what a great thing it was and how much work it had done etc yeah yeah alright enough already their not that safe for a start now are they?.
But what gets me is we get it every time they fire a rocket or people carrier up into space as if their the only ones with any idea or brains on how it’s done, well their not and their safety record is not good at all, they lost a rocket this week for starters.
The real experts are the Vodka drinking boys in Russia, they are doing this kind of thing weekly and are already the mainstay of the European space centre and from today they will take the shuttles workload as well, but unlike the yanks you never get them shouting about how great they are they just get on with it like so manother do and stop annoying me NASA, what does that stand for anyway?, isn't it need another seven astronauts?.

Are you mad Val it's not safe NASA tend to work down to a budget you know at least the Russians kept with what worked the shuttle was just a bus covered in heat tiles, they never wanted to make it a people carrier but the military paid so got what they wanted a bodge and it blew up on regular intervals, the last one that burnt up was doomed before it came in they knew it but brought it back in anyway as they had no backup it's fine as long as it's not your bum going all crispy just to keep costs down so the HR department can have their team building day out once a year!.0

I think that the Shuttle and NASA have done a fine job over the years, so well done them

What's going on?, where did all these trailer trash come from?.
My view is this, the shuttle did a lot of work and kept Hubble going and was a great bit of kit in some ways but they knew it had serious flaws yet were willing to use it and more importantly sacrifice people and it for the sake of cost over everything else, the first accident in 1987 was 100% avoidable, Morton Thiokol made the boosters and told NASA the O rings were iffy at low temperatures and not safe to launch but NASA threatened them with litigation if they didn’t agree to a launch so launch they did and bang the second disaster was even worse, they knew it was fatality damaged on takeoff but had no other choice but to again risk it as they had no space suits or kit able to repair it due to the cost per kg, so never took it up with them although they had it, so again for the cost of a few hundred thousand dollars they toasted 7 bright and talented people and destroyed one spacecraft.
And again seven families lost loved ones for what so some office bod can keep his bonus and NASA keep within budget, as the old saying goes my life might mean nothing to you but it means everything to me!.
It’s stupid to throw people and kit away when you know you don’t have too, risk is meant to be based on logic not accountancy. The shuttle was sold as a safe and effective and reliable alterative/service to what had come before which was full of risk and daring do, but sadly it wasn’t NASA got caught up in a cycle of working down to a budget rather than up to a standard so it could keep the dribble of funding going and people got killed in doing so.
And they have admitted that their loss to launch cycles was way higher than they accounted for yet they kept at it knowing it was risky they kept feeding the PR and hoping to dodge bullets and nearly managed it.
Let’s see what comes next, all I will say is let’s just hope it’s more like the Russian model, not so shinny but way safer.0
