Can folic acid make your bowel movements a dark colour?
I'm seeing my GP tomorrow, don't want to make a big deal of it if it's nothing. Thank you for reading and sorry!

Oooh hell hon, I don't know. If that happens to me I can usually put mine down to too much Guiness! I know that iron can darken stools, as do some foods, have you read the leaflet that comes with the FA? That may have some information. If there is no pain and no blood I would hazard a guess that there is no major problem but if you are in anyway unsure then contact your GP. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Been on folic acid for some years and must say have noticed no darkening of my stools. As DD says if there is no pain or blood unlikely there is a problem.''Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy''. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)0

Is foloic acid not iron??? sorry for the ignorance....but def....iron makes them darker
Hileena0 -
My poos the same colour as it always has been though red wine does make it darker.
I'd mention it to your doc if I were you Starburst.
I think when it was called Fe-folic acid - the Fe bit was the iron so I don't think there's iron in it anymore Hileena ...though I could be wrong, it has been known :roll:Love, Legs x

Hello Starburst - I hope he was able to help put your mind at rest. I think FA is different to iron (I know women preparing for pregnancy take it, when pregnant too?) as it helps with cell renewal so as such should not darken excretory matter.
