Hi all,
A general question to one and all to see if anyone else has had same problems, and if so, how did it go. Here goes, story so far...
Had to come off a few meds because they all have had the same outcome after a few months in that my liver readings have been high. Tried sulfa and meth over last year and had to stop both am waiting on an appointment in April to see a gastro guy to check if it is my immune system attacking my body as both Dr and Rheummy don't think it is the meds now. Am taking diclofenac 3 times a day and had codeine added in for pain as am not on any DMARD since coming off Meth in December. So not unduly worried at the moment but what type of tests has anyone had if done the same check ups?? Much appreciate any pointers. Have looked up some reports on Patient.co.uk and been of help but nothing like somebodies real life input.

Hi, I had high liver blood tests last year. The rheumy tested for autoimmune hepatitis, my antibodies were positive. I was referred to a gastro who did a scan and repeated bloods. Scan showed fatty liver, and bloods were again positive for the antibodies for auto immune hepatitis. To decide which I had, I was given a liver biopsy. Diagnosis of non alcoholic fatty liver disease.
They think the steroids, which raise my blood sugars are causing the problem, also my weight gain since being on steroids. I am trying to lose weight and control my diabtes better.
I have just started sulfa as was unable to take mtx due to high liver enzymes. We will see what happens. Rheumy is convinced its auto immune, gastro says no!!!
Hope this helps you.0 -
Had this problem some time ago when I was initially given Methotrexate. Went through all the bloods and questions, had ultrasound and on the verge of having biopsy when the liver man decided that I had a naturally fat liver......bloods returned to normal and returned to rhumatologist...
Sorry cant be more help but went through bit of a time with the not knowing and the poke and hope diagnosis...0 -
Enbrel tried to explode my liver - the figures were up near 700 so they took me off everything. I had a scan, various blood tests, a major major sulk as they told me to stop ALL alcohol (outrageous) but no biopsy. Eventually it all settled down. I never once felt ill with the liver trouble but the effect of three months sans meds - well, I felt that! I stayed in bed. Couldn't do much else. This was the January - April of 07.
The whole point of the constant monitoring of bloods is so things like this can be picked up nice and early thus minimising the risk of damage and major illness. Once the enbrel was out of my system everything calmed down again and I have been fine ever since. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
