to help a miserable, overtired, spotty, poorly baby?

Harry has (so far this week) has tremendous temperatures, ear infections, dodgy tum and a virus which has brought him out in a wonderful rash all over. He will only nap for 20-30mins during the day and only 40mins-1hr at night before waking screaming in agony (we think stomach cramps). We are all absolutely exhausted.

Any ideas welcome please?!

    Hi Jenzie

How old is your baby? Poor thing - and poor you! My youngest is 7 but I remember those days well!

When all else fails, I kick my OH out of bed and have the child in with me. I know it's against all the rules but when you're THAT exhausted, you will not help yourself or the baby. You'll also find the baby calms down quite a lot knowing you're near them and when they wake slightly, you can stroke them back to sleep without fully waking yourself.

And don't forget to answer any offers of help with "Yes please! When can you do it?" Don't try to cope alone, you won't get any prizes and it won't help you.

I second Nina's suggestion, it is exactly what I used to do. Take evrything you need during night up on a tray and put next to bed as well.

My baby boy is 10 months and when he is awake all he wants to do is walk about (holding your hands) which is also exhausting and extremely painful but he has a massive wobbly if he sits down (he's perfecting the art of lying on his front, kicking his legs and banging his hands whilst bellowing!). So if you are too close to him he drags himself up by clinging to you. Roll on the next phase!

are they on any antibiotics?, should be for the ear I'd say, flippin GP's don't like giving them these days but kids and ears aren't good,I had a few when I was young and it still haunts me, I'd go and see another GP if yours isn't helpful, as for nights Capol and try Lavender on their pillow ya never know it might help?.

Ah, how well I remember the tantrum phase, Jenzie - mine were SO funny and dramatic - I used to just leave them to it then pick them up when they calmed down.

They sulk now if they don't get their own way - peace and quiet at last!

i agree with everyone else ..have him in bed with you,or make oh have him in bed and you get a couple of hours kip on the sofa,my daughter has had a lot of ear aches and its got to the point it was the only way to get a sleep, also raise his pillow so hes more upright it drains the ears and a hot water bottle layed on the pillow before he goes to bed,the warmth will soothe his ear(you can tell ive become an expert on this lol) we got antibiotics from the doctor this time and they really kicked in quick and good old calpol...thank god for that stuff!!...xxxx

I remember that well....take him to bed with you. You both need as much sleep as possible. For stomach ache(trying to think how to explain this because it helps to relieve wind in babies) put him on your knees face down with his legs towards your stomach. Pick him up with your thumbs on the back of his body and your fingers just below the rib cage. Lift him so his .
body weight is resting on your fingers and gentle move him backwards and forwards tipping his head forward ie down towards the floor and then upwards. This movement may help to shift any wind trapped.
You can also have him in this same position and just move your legs up and down.
Have you tried ashton powders...(not sure if that is what they are called)
They were brilliant herbal thing you could buy from boots. It was powder in a wrapt up piece of paper you could put on a babies tongue. I am sure someone will be able to tell you the correct name. It use to work a treat for mine.
Also trapped wind is very very painful and the best solution for this is buy the disposable linners that you can take all the air out of before feeding the baby. Had to use these with one of mine as he was so greedy and was taking down to much air when feeding from a normal bottle. Not sure what is on the market to be honest and i lived abroad but for me it was well worth the extra money. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Forgot to mention for a itchy skin put baking powder in a warm bath..it soothes the skin and also dries up any nasty scabby skin.

    Hi Jen

    Bless out wee forum baby.

We have a responsibility to help for sure us all being honerary Aunties and Uncles.

I used to rub Charley's tummy when she was a baby gently and the wind used to come out  ofetn all that bawling can result in them trapping more wind! My Ex MIL used to suggest sugared boiled water? Bet THAT's not ok nowadays!!!

Not so sure about the bed bit.....it took me till Charley was 8 to get her back out of mine!!!!!!!

BUT it is a good idea to take inrturns to stay with him so each other get a good bit of sleep.

I am sure he has been seen by the doc so you know he is actually Ok....

If all else fails then Grandparents may give you both a night off?? Try BEGGING

    Love

    Toni xx
