Does anyone with bad hip use a treadmill on a daily basis ?

I have been going on my tread mill .. 20 mins before my breakfast & 20 mins in the afternoon. I only walk, I couldnt possibly start running.

My hip seems to be getting worse recently, but do I put it down to the treadmill which I have been using for the past 3 months, cold weather or footwear .... I think its the not knowing thats frustrating me more than the pain I'm in .. well not really but it feels like it sometime ..

    Hi
Maybe that your hip is just getting a little worse - is it OA? Or perhaps a combination of everything!

    Hi Rictina

If you think it may be the treadmill, or to rule that out, why not stay off the treadmill for a week and see if that makes any difference to the pain in your hips. That is what I would do, anyway.

    Hi Rictina,

I agree with Elna, you need to be scientific about this - try ruling out one thing a time. Just give up the treadmill for a week/couple of weeks see if this makes a difference. Might be that you can need to do a little less time on it or at slower pace. If this doesn't help - reintroduce it and try changing footwear and hopefully by then the weather will warmer - so you can test that theory third.

If none of these help then request an x-ray and appointment with ortho. My right hip stayed the same for years, but then it suddenly deteriorated really quickly - I don't mean to worry you - but it is worth getting it checked out.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Thanks all for the replys.

I think your right, I will try doing much less on the tread mill & see how I am with that.

Yes, I have OA but also Avascular Necrosis both in my right hip. With the AN I have to keep the joint moving to keep the blood flowing, which is why I started on the tread mill. But as Im sure you all know that with OA yes you do need to keep a degree of movement in the joint otherwise it will seize up & the pain worsens.
