Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good neck pillow please? I've googled it but a bit confused as to what one to get plus some are very expensive.
Thanks,
Magenta x

The right height is the most important thing, I think. I really suffer if I sleep away from home and the pillow is not right. Tend to take own pillows if possible. You need less height pillow wise if sleep on back, a bit higher if sleep in side. You want the pillows to keep your neck aligned. SOme folks swear by the memory foam ones. Shall be interested to see what other folks say.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
I have a memory foam pillow but it is in a cupboard. I couldnt use it, but I will follow this post with interest and hope that someone comes up with some suggestions.

I have a standard-shaped memory foam pillow which I love and, as Speedy says, it goes everywhere with me. It was about £25 (reduced from a higher price) from Argos. I also use a dunlopillo one for under/between my legs. I think that cost about the same, I bought it in a sale but cannot remember where from. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Never had much sucess with the so called neck pillows found they were to hard.
I have a feather pillow which I sort of mould round my neck. My neice who has neck problems and rolls a towel up and wraps it round her neck she finds that works well.
Years ago before my RA I had a Dunlopillow. Best pillow I ever had but they are so expensive and the problem is when they are new they are quite hard. My niece just bought one £60.00 and it's in her cupboard as it's to hard!
A Physio once told me to roll up a towel sausage like and place it in the middle of the pillow under the pillow case so the neck is resting on it! I never found that any good but it may work for you.

Hi
not sure how much help this will be but I have a collection of pillows to help me sleep, sit and drive. I have a contured memeroy foam neck support it took a few days to get used to but very good. I also have memory foam lumbar support if both the car and at work as well as a triangle wedge pillow for sitting in bed. I also work P/T as a party sales rep this involes sitting on the floor most of the time so i have taken to carrying a beadbag in my car to sit on as hard floors can cause me a lot of pain.

I got a memory foam pillow and it was the best £75 I've ever spent. I used to get terrible neck and shoulder pain and I don't anymore. It was expensive but worth every penny. Look on ebay, they are much cheaper, about half the price in some instances.
I highly recommend the memory foam pillows. Although, I would say pop into a shop and have a feel of them before you buy online (if you do...) because they come in different shapes.0 -
Hi Magenta
I swear by my Tempur memory foam pillow (Tempur Millennium Queen). It was expensive (although I seem to remember that I bought it in the sales so saved some money) but it really helps my neck. Did take a bit of getting used to but I find that ordinary pillows are impossible now because they don't support my neck at all. I do as other peeps and always take it with me when I go away anywhere. Can thoroughly recommend it (and before I bought this one, I spent probaby as much money trying out other cheaper pillows with didn't work for me). We have a shop locally which sells these pillows so you can try them out in the shop which would give you a bit of an idea of how comfortable or not it would be for you.
Hope you find something which works for you.

Hi Magenta
I have a memory foam neck pillow which I started using last year it is oblong! but it has a raised edge on the front and a less raised edge on the back.
If I lie on my side I have the higher edge in my neck and if I am on my back teh other way round. This in theory keeps my spine aligned.
It took some getting used to but at the time I was in SOOO much trouble IK stuck with it.
Good luck
Love

Hi Magenta,
Hoping you mean the pillows you sleep on I use a memory foam pillow- which I admit is hard and did take a few nights to get used to. (I agree with Lynn that they are quite personal and what suits one person might not suit another. We bought one for my hubby at the same time and he doesn't get on with it at all.)
Mine was from John Lewis and cost £40.Love, Legs x

Hi,
Didn't think there would be so many to choose from!!! I have a softish pillow that I plump up to fit into my neck but they usually flatten out. I don't think I would mind a hard pillow if it fitted the contour of my neck.
I agree that you need to try before you buy. I can't get a latex pillow as
I have a latex allergy (although mild).
Thanks everyone,
