yesterday in the papers it said a lot of ops were being cancelled to save money including hip and Knee replacments hysterectomys lower back problems IVF etc etc even cesarians are being stopped in favour of natural births some of the ops I agree with like tattoo removal and gastric bands etc
knowing I will be needing a knee and hip done in the not too distant future I am worried about it,

Morning, I try not to read the papers, I just look at the pictures
Not heard about this but it wouldn't surprise me... I'm with you on some of the surgeries being a pathetic waste of time but I am not going to rant on about which ones as I will no doubt offend some goody goodies somewhere and be told off for it..
I truly hope that it is wrong, hip, knee replacements etc are not some luxury surgery that will just make us feel 'whole' or some other happy happy rubbish but they are obviously needed otherwise we wouldn't have them done.....

Let's hope it is wrong eh?

Oh, and happy Birthday for the other day, sorry I missed it...:grin:

Yes, Lavenderlady it is unfortunately only so true.

My Orthopod was up in arms about it.

Operations for carpal tunnel, Duyputren's constricture, "cosmetic" bunions et al are being given the thumbs down.

I think you have to be bleeding to death before they give you a hysterectomy these days.

Get on the list sharpish is the only advice I can offer. (I've already got "meself" there for t'other hip and knee) purely because of the advice of my much loved Orthopod.

    Hi lavenderlady

Yep seems to be happening here. When I first saw my Consultant about a year ago he said the waiting list for a THR was 3 months and he thought I should have it done soon., but he saw my shock and terror and let me bolt for the door. When I went last November as an arranged follow up the big cheese wasn't in and the registrar I saw didn't even bother to sit down and more or less told me to come back when I couldn't walk at all or see them again in a year. Am sure it is all to do with funding, so it is a real worry. As Cherry says perhaps we should both consider getting ourselves on the lists sooner rather than waiting too long eh? They are then obliged to get you in within a certain time frame I think?
Though I think you are the same age as me at the mo and they still maybe consider us a bit too young which is another reason they could be fobbing us off. Who knows?
I hope it doesn't delay things for you when you feel you are ready.
    take care
    Chris

thanks everyone its a real bad deal do they not understand how much pain and how disabled some of us are with these damn problems, am seeing surgeon monday 21st about my toe joints they are so deformed shoes are getting harder to get on and the pain ouch !!!
I had my full hysterectomy in Oct 09 due to a hugh fibroid weighing 10lb 2oz so would like to see how they could have got away with leaving that much longer?
better start ticking off some ops I'll be needing soon,
