Hey again,

Just wondering if any long time users of DMARDS have any immunisations, flu/pneumonia for instance?

    Hi Keith1971,

not really sure whether you are planning on have any immunisations or wondering which ones you might need?!! Just wanted to let you know i take methotrexate and due to my course being a medical one had to have the MMR (again!), Hep B (several courses, still cant get immunised!) and flu jabs. Had all these whilst on the meth with no problems, though we are all different!

    Hope this helps.

Hey Jenny, thanks for the reply.

At the moment I'm worrying about what I *should* get immunised against as I've only just started taking Sulfasalazine & given that I'm a hypochondriac at the best of times!

I have had the flu jab since the year dot due to childhood asthma and have just carried on as per usual. You need to ask your rheumatology team/nurse/helpline as the advice can vary from area to area. If you can have one well, I think it makes sense to do so. DD

    Hello Keith

The advice I was given when taking immunouppressant drugs (not sure if Sulpha counts officially as an immunosuppressant) is to have annual flu vaccinations and the pneumonia one which is once every few years. But as has already been said, best to check with rheumatology peeps for advice.

Hi Keith, i take the sufasalzine too, been on it almost 5 years and was told by gp last year (when i started the methotrexate) that i should have been having them since starting the sulfasalazine so who knows.... might just be as easy to ask your GP or Rheumy next time ur in....

:P No you're right Lynn, definitely no vaccine for man flu, it can be pretty devastating full blown! Lots of whingeing being the main killer symptom!

I get colds every year, not flu thankfully & also get the odd sinus infection here & there too. Will ask the rheumatologist his advice when I see him again this Thursday.

Definitely ask him, Keith. A reduced immune system is no joke: no immune system = no symptoms and that could mean a serious illness is happening and the sufferer has no idea, somewhat the reverse of hypochondria methinks. DD

    Hi Keith,
I take Hydroxychloroquine and Methotrexate. I had the Flu, Pneumonia and swine flu jab in 2009 1st time I'd had any! last year I had flu jab. No side effects just sore arm for a few days.
