Hi Sister Kneepads,
I think the normal thing with hydroxychloroquine is to reduce it to one tablet per day instead of two after 6-12 months. At least that's what my new rheumatologist told me when she discovered I'd been left on the original dose for about 8 years (with no ill effects). I reduced it straight away without hassle.
If I must be original can I go for my real love - an Ardbeg single Highland malt?If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Linda,
I have been on Hydroxychloroquine for so many years now I can't even remember but it's over 20!! I used to take it with Penicillamine I have now been on Methotrexate (injections) 10mg for about 3 years now, started on 15mg but kept getting chest infection. Also Voltarol and prednisalone. I don't have any side effects and never had any from the Hydroxychloroquine. Used to get sickness before I had Methotrexate by injection.

Hi Legs,
Just wondering as you do if upping the mtx rather than an add in is an idea? Its always helped you and would stop a second drug just yet as well as the possibility for side effects.
Mind as its an add in it might work better and with a bit of luck you wont have the side effects either? I am sorry though that's its needed and leaving you a ((((( ))))) and he is in his best butler suit to serve you the cocktails...... though you might want to cover your self in easy wash clothes as he does tend to spill things, some of us think on purpose..... Hi Linda
I've not had Hydroxy but popped by to wish you good luck with your new 'cocktail'.... you'll have to give it a name!
fingers crossed this combination works for you. :!:

Hi Linda,
In reply to your question.
It was the first drug given to me but after a while, it all but stopped working. They kept me on the same dose when I started the mtx just so I would have something other than the general steroid injection to keep me going. I will see what they say when I go for my next appointment in April. There was a mention of reducing the mtx if my symptoms settled but that is not looking likely at the moment.

Hi Linda,
I am on both Hydroxy and MTX (25mg injected).
I haven't had any side effects from the hydroxy and not many from the mtx to be honest.
I am not sure if the hydroxy does anything although my rheumy nurse says they work like a mess one on top of another to block the RA so i still take them. I have been taking them for 4 years now. after the first month the gp put them up to 400mg a day which i took until last month when the rheumy doctor(who i didn't like) said you should only take 400mg for the first month  he then gave me a sheet to read and said can you read that ok (i said yes) and he said that ok then ( i suppose that was my eye check cos it's the only one they have ever done).
I hope they work for you.
I like the idea of the cherry can i have one too please.
I hope you are enjoying you french classes (mine is far to rusty not used for 28years..)

Hi, sorry not to get back to everyone sooner but a pal and I have spent a great day in Sheffield visiting a very lovely friend.
Hi DD
I agree about the side effects having to be listed that was why I was interested in knowing whether peeps taking Hydroxy actually were suffering from them, just so as I could be prepared ......used to be a girl guide
Manhattan it is
Hi Julie (PF)
That's good news to know that you noticed an improvement - it might be worth me giving it a go.
Hi Stickeywicket Sis,
A whiskey girl - yet another thing we have in common .........though I do like G&T .............and wine ............... and port ..............and most things with alcohol in
Hi Anita,
It looks like you hold the record for the longest time on Hydroxy - 20 years+ with no side effects that's very reassuring.
Hi Cris,
Rheumy doesn't want to up Mtx because I have waking headaches and we're wondering if Mtx is the cause or the menopause or whether it's a combination of the two - February I had 18 days out of 28 with headaches getting me out of bed  They go with paracetamol as long as don't lie down
Put a bit of kitchen roll on his tray and then the glasses won't slide and spill ................or maybe he just likes to lap up the mess
((( ))) for you and the new one sounds delightful
Hi Elizabeth,
(Said in a non French accent) I'm really glad you're enjoying the art course - time for you is so important
Hi Iris,
Thanks for popping by.
My new cocktail name would have to be Arthur-on-the-rox (sorry it's a bit lame but it's late! )
Hi I
I do hope your symptoms settle soon or they can sort something else out for you in April. Good luck.
Hi Tracey,
Thanks for your input. Your Rheumy doesn't sound very helpful I must admit.
I shall send you a cyber cherry on a stick and a French lesson to boost you again
I have a lot to think about now and will decide after my operation whether to go on it or not. I'll read through this thread again and make a list of questions for when I see my Rheumy.
Thanks for all your support everyone - your contributions have helped to inform me with what happens to us, the real experts, when we take these drugs. I'll let you know what I decide.Love, Legs x

Hi Legs,
They have definitely decided its the change or the drugs causing the headaches there haven't they?
I know the rumo told me he wouldn't use the hydroxy cus the state of my eyes and the risk how ever small but there are a few people it helps and I hope you will be one of them.
Yep she is a total slob, completely ungainly, takes demanding and launching at me to a whole new level but is lovely Will tell him to use the kitchen roll but he is busy just b=now..... there goes another trashed duvet all over the floor...... 2 of em in mega shred it mode.....
I don't care so its alright eh?! Fingers crossed for you flower and when do you get seen again? You might have said but the new colour scheme isn't something my eyes are good with and i have missed it if you have said. (((( )))) and a bucket of anti-headache. Cris who must go get clean and today will get her head in the way of the botox xx0 -
Hi Cris,
It is the 'eye' business which worries me even though it's only a small risk especially as my Mum was almost blind for some years before she died with macular degeneration and my Dad is totally colour blind. I shall talk to my Rheumy and Optician especially on these two points before I commit to taking it.
I have to ring my Rheumy when I've had my op, so I haven't got a date yet.
Glad you have some duvet shredders - a couple of partners in crime my son's dogs did eat nearly all his sofa one day when they were a bit bored  - they seem to have grown out of it now
Thanks for the anti-headache hugs they worked this morning because I didn't get one .........whooppee
Take care and (((((((((( )))))))))))) for you and the employers and lodgers.Love, Legs x
