Hello and Good morning

I'd like to start by saying, how happy I am to find a place to help me understand what my condition is and how best to deal with it.. I have had Labrum tears in both hips 1 year apart and have had them both repaired..6 years later It started with grinding sound and dull ache and then the groin pinch..I'm not an overactive person but do keep moving and don't let things get me down..after 6 months of watching the symptoms get worse I went for once again and Arthrogram with Contrast injected into hip joint..The Findings..Grade 2-3 Chondromalacia of weight bearing portion of hip joint with a subchondral cyst of the anterior acetabulum and a Femoral Acetabular impingment poss Cam-Type..My questions what does this mean for my hip and what can I expect..I have a appt with the Orthopedist who did my 2 tear repairs.. The dull ache I feel is so wearing on me..I'm a possitive person and know that I will be ok..Thank you inadvance for any help, advice or if you have had this perhaps you can offer some help..

Hello, it's nice to meet you and I hope that the forum can help in some way. I have to start by saying I did not understand some of the techinical terms of what ails you as I am not a doctor or specialist of any sort - technical speak is fine as long as the audience knows the language. It's obvious that you have hip trouble of some sort, a dull ache is unpleasant and wearing and I am sure many will sympathise on that front. I have a beast of a very different nature however, so don't really know what to suggest. Is your walking impaired in any way? What about sleep - does the ache disturb that? Are you taking any anti-inflammatories? What sort of pain relief do you have? I don't think anyone can predict your future, we are all affected in very different ways - a crystal ball would be handy at times! I wish you well. DD

    Thanks Dreamdaisy for your reply

I have been useing Aleve and it's takes the edge off, I have trouble sleeping, not every night, it really depends on how much activity I had that day.. I work where there are stairs and It's difficult to go up and down.. I only know what was on the MRI report..I have looked up the conditions, however I see so many different results that I'm confused..I do see the Ortho Dr. on the 24th and will have a better idea as to a plan ect..If anyone is aware of the conditons or has or have them that would be helpful..

I'm glad I found this sight as I do have OA and even though I started to see this at age 30, I'm now 50 and want to have a great life ahead..I was active in sports in my youth and believe that is one of the reasons I'm having trouble today..

    Hi
Sorry I dont understand all the Jargon of your condition(s) but do understand about OA pain. You really need your ortho to explain it to you in plain english at your upcoming appointment what it all means.
Whatever it means we will always be here to support you

Hello again sunny, I haven't heard of Aleve (I am on a wonderful combo of meth, sulph, humira and oral steroids) but if what you are taking isn't helping that much then it must be time for a re-think and perhaps a chat with your GP. We all have our own versions of this pestilence: the umbrella terms of OA, RA etc etc cover a wide variety of symptoms and effects. One person's arthritis is different to another's but we all understand on-going, continuous, unremitting pain. DD

    Here's a definitionof FAI

    What is it?

Femoroacetabular impingement or FAI is a condition of too much friction in the hip joint. Basically, the ball (femoral head) and socket (acetabulum) rub abnormally creating damage to the hip joint. The damage can occur to the articular cartilage (smooth white surface of the ball or socket) or the labral cartilage (soft tissue bumper of the socket).

Before I had my Hip-replacement I had a couple of discussions with the consultant, he showed me the xray of the cysts that were in the femoral head of my hip which would evetually lead to the collapse of the femoral head. When I explained about how lack of proper sleep because of the 'resting' pain was affecting my work and daily life he said he thought the time had come for me to decide if I could work/live with this pain anymore. I made my decision that day and he put me on the waiting list and 4mths later I had my surgery and woke free of the grinding pain that had dogged my life for 2 or more years.
You need to go into your appointment and ask for an explanation of just how bad your hip joint is and just how badly the pain is affecting your life and then explain that to the Doctor ask him what if anything can be done to alleviate your pain... you don't say how old you are , I was 56/57 when I had my surgery. It was a big shock to realise the only way I could be painfree was to have my hip replaced but I did come to terms with it and now I am so glad I had it done..
Our worst times are always our best lessons.

Good morning all..I have an update..I met with Ortho Dr. yesterday and I will be having a Anterior Total hip on May 17th..It seems that because of the location of the cyst, a scope won't relieve the pain and no guarentees..So now I will start the next 6 weeks wraping my mind around this and preparing for the surgery..any pointer from anyone would be grately appriciated..:-)

I haven't had any form of replacement but I do wish you the very best. From reading the forum I have learned two things: the stronger your muscles before hand the better the outcome and the recovery can take longer than you are told (or might think). The final goal, however, less pain and better mobility is a wonderful aim and well-worth the upheaval of surgery. Are you pleased or uncertain? Surgery is a big deal but sooooooo worth it! DD

I am ready to feel better..No surgery is looked forward to, however if it makes my life better then I'm in..I live outside of Seattle WA..I do have OA and it is going to upset things as my life goes on..Dr. says I can resume all my activities, with the exception of High impact sports..I golf, swim and want to ride bikes and he says yes all you want, hiking, walking..My husband says he's glad that I will be getting surgery so that I will feel better..The 6 week wait is just enough time for me to finish up at work and get things ready for the recovery time which Dr. is saying up to 3 months..

I will continue to do Acupuncture and Massage and build up my strength..
Dr. did tell me that Aleve can be taken with Tylenol to help with pain so I learned something new..

    Thanks

Think longer than three months, honestly. Use that as a target but things can take longer. It doesn't mean they will, but the possibility is there. Keep in touch over the next few weeks, let us know how you are getting on. DD

There is someone on here who had a hip replacement towards the back end of last year and he is doing disgustingly well - doctors always present the best-case scenario but sometimes it don't work out that way! I wish you the very best - I think being able to have a new joint must be lovely and well worth all the expense and effort - quality of life is at stake, yes? DD

Hey Sunnydaze! What a lovely surprise to read your post - and then to read such good news too. I am so pleased to hear that all has gone smoothly and that post-operatively you are doing so very well. Don't do too much though, however strong the temptation, because it is very easy to undo the surgeon's good work without meaning to. Do the exercises as given, rest as much as you need and I hope it all continues to go well for you. I wish you well. DD
