Can someone give me some tips how to ease arthritic pain in fingers? Last few weeks I wasn't even able to sleep much...

I don't want to use painkillers... Actually I don't like to take any drugs at all...

Maybe there's any kind of natural treatment to ease pain in fingers?

Thanks,

P

Unfortunately I've tried many but nothing has worked for me... I've tried splints, heat, cold, acupuncture, physio and a tens machine and taken some natural herbal rememdies . I now take Naproxen and when its really bad Ibuprofen as well... you can try all of those and hopefully find one that eases your pain without going down the drug route. Have you spoken to your GP about natural treatments. I hope you get some relief soon there is nothing worse than pain at night.

Oddly enough, I think most of us would sympathise with the 'no drugs' route but quite a few of us have realised how unrealistic it can be, especially after a good few years of this rubbish. I understand that for hands wax treatments can be beneficial, briefly, as can everything else including the pain dullers (yet again 'briefly' is the apposite word) but there is no permanent solution for total relief, apart from the obvious. I don't relish taking the dullers but they can mean the difference between coping and not. I know which I prefer. I wish you well. DD

    Hi..

I suffer pain in my fingers frequently..
It is a horrible pain, i'm on lots of meds and i would hate to think what the pain would be like without them..
When i can take no more pain meds the only thing that eases it slighly for me is putting my hands to soak in hot water... this is only short term measure but takes the edge off for me when i feel like screaming out with pain..
I hope you find something that works for you but i really think for you to find any kind of benefit you will have to take medication...

    Hi ya Pet,

I use Thermoskin fingerless gloves, i work in a call centre and spend all day typing which isnt ideal when you have arther buggering up your hands.... to be able to type with the i had to cut the length down on the fingers but they have worked a treat.... i totally recommend them to anyone. They aren't what i'd call cheap but for the relief i get to me they're priceless. I have been using them for about 5years in total now. My first pair actually wore out the end of last year and so i immediately got new ones. I have a pair in my locker at work and i have a pair i use at home when needed. [ Text deleted]
I also use a topical pain relieving aspirin cream its available in boots and its called Lloyds Cream... i know it's a form of pain relief but as it's topical you only use it where needed.

As mentioned by the lovely DD paraffin wax hand treatment also works for me ... it can get a bit expensive going to a salon for this though (approx £8-£10 0n top of the manicure/pedicure price  ), so much so i actually bought my own kit it contained everything i needed. In the time i have been using this it has paid for itself, and all i do now is buy the actual paraffin wax to use in it.
As a qualified beauty therapist I am more than happy to give advice or instruction to anyone wanting to try this themselves....all you need to do is PM me. It's so easy to use at home by yourself or get your other half or a friend to do the application while you sit back and relax  then you don't need to make the effort to get an appointment and will be available when you want/need it.

I finally got a visit from the OT team at work (i've only been asking for about 18 months lol) and the lad they sent was fab... he's got me all sorts of weird and wonderful contraptions to use at work... I shall report back when i have them and let you all know what i think...

Hope this maybe of some help to you

    Gentle hugs

Hi, My fingers can be painful and stiff. The OT gave my hands a wax bath, which is hot, liquid wax for about half an hour. Wonderful for a short while, like a few hours, but the it goes off.
I think you can buy them, why not google it. I know that some people have them at home for beauty treatment as they make the hands so soft.
I've got several splints, but they arn't really for the fingers, although they do make you do less, to hurt the fingers!

My hands were in a horrific state last weekend. The low point was sitting on the toilet crying because I couldn't wipe my bum as my hands had seized up and were in agony.

    Today I bought these: http://images.productserve.com/preview/65/114351625.jpg

I don't know if they work but they're worth a try - I got them in the local chemist. I was waiting for my prescription and I just spotted them - didn't know such a thing existed.

I may ask more tonight about a hand problem if my hands let me type anymore.

    Pete

If yo are determined to avoid meds you are left with heat or cold - Ice or heat packs.

Maybe you would try the anti-iflamatory gels? You rub them in and they are absorbed through the skin?

The thermoskin gloves - I have heard others swear by them so worth a try?

    Love

the thermo gloves help but my fingers and thumbs are so deformed and stiff with OA only pain relief helps for a while as does a small hot water bottle my 2 Grandaughters got me in the shape of a heart with we love our nanny on it its so cute but it is an ideal size and shape to rest my fingers on I wrap a towel round my hand keeping the heat in and it does help for a while but anything helps when it gets so bad, good luck fingers have got to be one of the worst places to have OA michelle

Hi need me bed, we do not allow advertisers to advertise on the forum, but it is fine to tell someone who has asked, where to get the gloves. You could also use a pm no problem.
