A rough morning for Poppyg1rl

Poor Poppy has not had a good time. As you all may remember she had to be at the hospital bright and early for her first humira jab which was then to be followed by another appointment about her wrist. So, what happened?
The humira jab came first - and credit to the rheumatology nurse she had taken it out of the fridge to warm thro a little. That went OK (tho it is still stinging a little now) but then the nurse noticed that the outside of Poppy's elbow had a lump on it. She pressed it, it hurt, so a rheumatologist was called in. He recommended aspiration and a steroid jab - - most unexpected, and very painful. Poor Poppy. He then asked about her cast, she explained about her wrist and he was very annoyed that she had been plastered. He said she should have more Xrays etc, she went to have them, they said we can't Xray thro plaster, she went back to rheumatology and he went back with her to Xray etc and they all had a fight! The upshot was the cast was removed, more Xrays taken - this is what the fourth/fifth lot? - and another cast put on plus a sling (to help her now very sore elbow). Now Poppy has to go back in five days FOR MORE XRAYS. This cast is more comfortable but will be off again soon.
Our friend is tired, distressed and in much pain. She cannot believe that she had missed the fact that her elbow was inflamed and there is now some confusion over her broken wrist: apparently there is damage from a previous fall (she severely damaged her shoulder then and thought her wrist was just sprained) and this latest fall is thought to have aggravated that wrist damage. She has been given more tablets, lanzaprole and an anti-emetic to help with the nausea caused by the tramadol.
Poppyg1rl, I hope my summary is reasonably accurate and I hope you feel better after a very good rest. I think you have coped remarkably well today - you were all on your own brave girl - but I hope someone will be home with you soon. I am thinking of you. Brace yourself: ((())) DD

Poppyg1rl, you must be shattered. So much happening. So much to take in. On no account blame yourself for not noticing the inflamed elbow. You‘ve had quite enough to notice recently without thinking about elbows.
The good bit is that, thanks to a persistent rheumatologist, you are now on course to sort out not only the problem you knew you had but also the residual problem you’d no idea you had. This is a huge amount to take in and deal with but you will, as ever, cope. It’s what we do.
I hope the painkillers and anti-emetics do their jobs quickly and efficiently. Look after yourself. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi poppygirl, no wonder you feel shattered after all that.
I am glad you have a good rheumatologist who is on the ball.
I hope the next xrays on your wrist show that it is mending and that the pain killers you were given help make your wrist and elbow more comfortable.
Take care , and sending a hug ((((((()))))

Oh Poppy I am so so so sorry you have had such a traumatic day. I do hope that the new cast continues to be more comfortable for you and that you do get some relief from the steroided elbow. Hope too that the Humira gives you relief in due course.

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!
To the lovely DD for the thread and her encouragement and support, don't know what I'd do without you!
And to everyone who posted such lovely replies hugs and kisses to all of you :-)
my elbow is causing problems as it really didn't enjoy the steroid in it and although the wrist is stable being pulled around was not appreciated.
Took my painkillers as soon as I could when I got home and went to bed. Ive only just logged onto the forum and was so touched I had a little cry.
Thanks again Hugs x'grá agus solas'

Morning Poppy, I hope things have eased over night and that you are feeling better/brighter today. If so, don't show it too much - I think being waited on hand-and-foot could well be in order, yes? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
