Hi everyone
Is anyone else taking morphine tablets for pain? I have been given them off my GP & was wondering how long some of you have been on them & how did you feel when taking them.
Thanks

I'm not currently taking them but I have in the past for a different health issue before moving down to codeine. It was bliss while it lasted - i think you could've stuck pins in me & I wouldn't have felt a thing.0

Hi i have been on them for 3 years and each time i come off them i cant stand the pain , I dont like having to take them but i need them. The pain clinic gave them me because other pain killers ,codine type made me ill and i cant take anti-inflamortorys
When i first started taking them they made me feel really strange and the doctor told me to give it a few weeks and i would be fine , I take one that has a antisickness med in it so they dont make me feel sick.
I am happy to get rid of the worst pain . I do think after a while you get used to them and they dont work as well . I take as little as i can depending on how i feel hope that helps ...............jilly0 -
I take tramadol 50mg at night when needed (they send me to sleep, sometimes quite deeply, so they are not good for daytime), slow-release 100mg tramadol for the sit-on-the-edge-of-the-bed-and-rock times, they mean I can get thro a day of work and chores etc and for the off-the Richter scale I have liquid morphine. (I have not resorted to that for ages.) I am fortunate in that the only side-effect I get from them is more sweating - I can cope with that as it doesn't hurt, it's ony a nuisance. I ration the use of these things tho - I don't want to run out of pain-relief options and after a good few years of this business I am quite used to a high level of discomfort. They are useful weapons on ones armoury. Good luck and I hope they help - they dull the edges of the pain more effectively than cocos etc, they don't remove it altogether. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi tjc
There are slow release patches that are morphine based ,and you can get different strengh, its just a thought if you dont like the tablets.

Ive had my condition for just over two months now not too long but just as painful, I was on tramadol to begin with but I found that when I was taking it it was making my legs very blotchy and itchy! I am currently on 1 5mg tablet and up to 10ml of Oramorph depending on how bad the pain is. I have found that if the pain is really bad I need to take the max dose which seems just to chill me out that much I feel drunk however the pain doesnt seem to ease I just feel more relaxed and sleepy. I have been advised my my doctor that regular use of these drugs your body becomes immune to them but as I havent been on them for ages cant comment on that.
Hope that helps a bit xIf you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.0 -

Hi TJC, just wanted to say I am taking M.S.T twice a day it is the slow release tablet, I wasn't sure is that the tablet you are taking?
I take 100mg twice a day, and have oromorph as a top up if the pain is worse. The doc yesterday added another muscle relaxent yesterday!0 -
Hi tjc,
I have 30mg slow release morphine to be taken 12hrs apart, i only use them when needed but love it... you could run me over with a Monster Truck and i'd just lay there and giggle til someone picked me up. The relief they give from the pain is amazing... I also have oramorph for breakthru pain but very rarely use that... I'm just too worried about the addictive qualities... I have only had 1 side effect... which was serious constipation  (sorry everyone) which i hadn't been warned about.. but now i know if i use it, i put a counter measure in place.
The only thing i would say to anyone starting out is make sure you read the leaflet inside and keep a close eye out for any side effects...
Happy floating
