Hi

At the risk of being haraunged on here had to comment on todays sport.....

Why oh why have we got six nations from 4.30pm till 10.00pm (and for those of you being pedantic, oops sorry there is a 15min breather for the news)......? I mean i like sport and can watch most such as tennis, golf, football, rubgy and even snooker but for 5.5hours??? Come on beeb, try putting something else on for those of us who can take bits of sport but not torturous overload......!!

Thank god ive got SKY.....

Well I will be watching the England Match at 5pm because I want to! Might not watch the others, then again I might. --- There are other stations to watch and there are other things to do..... And there is always that little button to press that says OFF

Overload from the beeb? It's a public service broadcaster which means it has to try to reflect everyone's tastes - a challenge in this day and age, admittedly. I would counter your complaint with one of my own about the flagship soap Eastenders. Dire trash four evenings a week plus a rehash on a Sunday, for 52 weeks of the year. One week of Eastenders = about 6 hours, today's rugby perhaps 4.5 hours, give or take, but the Enders will be back for more. It's like ground elder, you can't kill it. DD

I can sympathise with you somewhat if your not a rugger fan it could well p(*s you off, for me it's tennis you get it with tennis it's on BBC1 and 2 at the same time for hours and hours and days and days! one thing I will say for rugger is it's like good food it can't be rushed honest it's quality!. and supporters are all able to mix drink have a pre and post match get together without punching each others brains out and or arguing about how crap the manager or team were they just get on with it, and more importantly the teams don't cheat and accept the ref's decission rare these days, also the most important thing for me is my team is called the ENGLISH, a rare brow beaten breed these days but still able to stand up and play a mans game and act like true English men!!!!,sorry me spleen has again sprung a leak!?. Now where did I put that St George cross flag and me picture of dear old Lord Nelson??.

Yes DD Soaps!!! --- How many hours do they need? Eastenders, Emmerdale, Corrie, Home and away....... then the Omnibus .....and it goes on. I dont watch any of them - I prefer real life, so switch over or switch off! I dont begrudge those who do like them though ....cos its their choice.

Rugby is played hard but gratuitous violence is normally nipped in the bud whereas in soaps you are lucky to get a house in which no-one has ever been bumped off. Also, all children born into soaps seem to be of exceptionally indeterminate parentage. In hospital soaps surgeons scrap with each other over the comatose patient, scalpels in hand. And there is never a ref present. Give me the gentler theatre of rugby any day.

    Mellman, Caterina57, DD and SW....

I dont mind rugby, dont particularly dislike any sports....I just feel that any subject whatever it may be shouldnt be on for 5.5hours....I cant think of anything that would hold my attention for that amount of time.....And okay we have SKY but for the other folk who dont have more channels available, well there's not a lot of choice is there if you want to watch something else....

Ps..We're scottish and i think any time we watch our national folksmen/women it puts the curse on them!! But still watch hoping for a rare win!!

Curling? Scots are pretty good at that. And you export a lot of good footballers - Robert Snodgrass does it for Leeds. The Murrays (tennis). Don't know why Scottish rugby has gone down recently. These things seem to go in cycles. Me? I could (given the chance & nothing pressing to hand) watch an entire 5 day test match. I'm a hopeless case.

    Um SW

How long ago was curling? Snodgrass is okay, but when these guys play for their country they never seem to have the same zest as they do for club...Then you get the Barry Fergusons of this world??? Andy & Jamie Murray, think Jamie maybe will win more than Andy as he has won a few tournaments but while Federer and Nadal are about forget about wimbledon.......The last time the football team was good was when i waw wee (mid to late 70's and same for rugby probably)....
Five day test match?? No sorry each to their own but i just dont really get cricket, know thats my thickness but i cant get excited about it...

Totally with you Mel. I dont think there is anything better than a day out with mates, rugby, beer and fit men in tight shorts. I would sooner be watching that than 22 boys wearing 1920's style shorts, cheating and arguing their way to the top, earning more money in a week than an entire company of soldiers on the front line do in a year. At least rugby only really takes over the TV a couple of times a year rather than football every week for about 9 months and tennis which drags on so long on two channels you dont have much choice then. IMO there should be more rugby on TV

A game by us worthy of the French, non? The Irish have been indifferent against those who don't matter but pretty good today against those who count - but only 'cos we failed to come out to play (apart from Steve 'Fat Boy' Thompson). Ye gods, it's down (or up) to the Welsh. Who'd a thunk it? DD

Just for the BBC alone, you have BBC News, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4 to watch instead.

There are 692 radio and television channels available on the Sky, of which there are 79 radio, 50 timeshift and 53 HD channels. So, plenty to choose from.
