Hi all,
I'm a little confused again. I'm the 2nd week into taking Sulfa & my general aches & pains seem to have increased!
Elbow, knee, ankles & now right hand.
I thought things were supposed to get better!?
:x

Supposed to help, yes. They will help? Not guaranteed. You are still on a very small dose of sulph, these things do not happen overnight. You are in the twilight world of arthritic meds, not the clearer world of anti-biotics. They do what they are supposed to do usually within a week but our drugs sometimes a while to have an effect and even then sometimes they don't. You must have read, countless times on here, that what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another and that we are all different in how we react. I wish you well but I suspect you won't notice anything until you are on the full dose - and even then any benefit may still take some time to come thro. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Keith,
The trouble is the drugs can take up to 12 weeks to actually help. You also don't normally start on the top dose and it often takes the top dose to get it under control.
Some people get and earlier improvement to the 12 weeks and some of us it didn't really work for but fingers crossed in a week or two you will start to feel much better. Cris x0 -
I understand the 12 week thing but to be honest I didn't expect for my joints to start aching even more....and suddenly out of nowhere my left elbow is now extremely tender & hurts when I bend it.
I'm sick to death of this already & feeling extremely sorry for myself which I know isn't going to help any!
Plus the sulfa is making me nauseous
Whinge over, hope you're all okay this morning.

Morning Keith
Sorry you are feeling so rough this morning.
Re your joints getting worse - that could be the arthritis being more active and nothing to do with the Sulpha. As the others have said the Sulpha, like most of the arthritis drugs, does take time to do its stuff.
As for the nausea - hang in there if you can. I had shocking headaches and nausea to begin with on the Sulph and nearly gave up, but it DID go once my body got used to the full-dose.
Thinking of you.

I'm not on these meds so not any help however hope you start feeling decent soon.0

Hey Tilly,
The nausea on a scale of 1-5 is roughly a 2, so not too bad....but it's definitely there lurking!
I'm being self indulgent & feeling sorry for myself yet again -- I know I should be grateful that thus far I'm just suffering with aches & pains (and of course the non bending finger & dodgy big toe!) & haven't had to reach for the painkillers. So many people on this forum seem to be suffering really badly & my heart goes out to them, makes me feel extremely guilty to be whingeing on!
Hope you're well.

Hi again Keith
Please don't ever feel the need to apologise on here - we're here to listen and we all have feeling sorry for ourselves times! That's why the forum is so good because we all understand what it's like. Sometimes it helps I think to realise that there are others worse off, although it doesn't always make it easier to deal with your own "stuff". Don't feel guilty though - it doesn't help!
Hope the nausea improves Keith - or at the very least stays at 2.
Hang in there if you can and give the Sulph a chance to work.

Hi Keith
I was just reading through your posts and Im experiencing the same problems although I have been told it takes a while for the drug to kick in. Im about to start my 2nd week of sulf When I first started on Sulf along with taking my steroids and celebrex which ive been on a while (consultant has just doubled my dosage) for the first few days I wasnt having flare ups however my pain has also moved into other parts of my body and my feet have began to sting burn and swell up again. I have been taken morphine on a night to try and get some sleep with it. I cant give you an explaination as to why its happening which is probably not very helpful to you but just wanted to say your not alone and Im experiencing the same problems
xIf you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.0 -
Hi Keith
Dont you apologise for how you are feeling, we all get down, and feeling sorry for ourselves is not always bad.
I cant advice on the meds, but I really do wish you well with them.
Hopefully the joints are annoyed because the drugs are sapping them
You take care , and let us know how it goes....but stop apologising if anyone understands its us lot.
