Exercise / Weight training

Hi all,
I'm wondering how many of you out there incorporate weight training or cardiovascular exercise in your day-to-day routine.
I used to be fairly sporty in my 20's & early 30's before losing myself a little in the night life of London (I'm a retired burlesque DJ) & enjoying the many benefits of a well stocked bar!
Since the arthritis hit I've made it a point to start walking again & I'm about to commence with some light weight training too -- I've read many reports on the benefits of such regimes.

Hi Keith
I'm 39yrs and for years went to the gym for weight training 5 times a week and ran almost every morning.
When my PolyArthritis and Lupus hit me I couldn't even go to the loo myself so had to give it all up.
Now that my meds have gained some control over the illness I have been attending yoga class every week for the last month which has greatly help with flexibility, toning up abs and leg strengthening and recently got a puppy so now waling 2 hours every day.
I'm not ready for running again yet and don't know if I ever will be and with my Lupus weight training can execerbate the symtoms sometimes so although I am choking to get back in the gym I think I will give it a miss just now.
Thoroughly recommend the yoga stuff - you should try it out.

Hi Carol,
Sounds eerily similar to my former myself!
Glad to hear your meds are working & that you're managing to exercise again. Being a former gym bunny myself I've been resisting the temptation to lift heavy weights for fear of damaging something else....but my doctor has given me the green light as long as I start light & don't overdo things.
I've been toying with the idea of yoga or perhaps tai chi, guess I should just find a class and get in & do it!

Yep, you said it ..... just go and do it!
Honestly, the yoga thing has given me so much confidence in my body again as since it took a battering with my illness/symptoms I used to growl and swear at my body however it is responding well with my getting back my fitness with baby steps.
Remember, ANYTHING is possible and remember the great feeling you got before with exercise. Just watch not to overdo it. When I started going out for walks again my legs the next day felt like I had ran a marathon but quickly improved.

My arthritis is \ was in my right knee, ankle and foot... Been on meth for 14 weeks now.. Started on 15's been on 20 mg for last 4 weeks...
Inflammation all but gone except stubborn ankle/ foot...
Anyway, I've been back to work firefighting for 2 weeks now... I did 90 mile the other week on bike and get in the gym about twice a week.. (about 30 mins, overall about 15 sets of about 8 to 15 reps)
Cycling far far easier on my ankle/foot than walking... Much to my dogs disapproval..0
