well my left big toe is being fused within the next 15 weeks its basically totally deformed and it will be done as a day patient thank goodness,
but then he said we will then do your right big toe joint which is having a more indepth op done to save some mobility, the left toe has no mobility at all, but then he stated your right ankle will need doing as soon as possible, he looked at my 19 xrays done by my rhumatologist and could not believe they were mine, yeah I've heard it all before they are my Xrays I'm riddled with OA , :x he said my right hip and knee are both going to need doing shortly as well ugh! as well as my left elbow which is deformed , I must admit i did think why me only for a second then I got annoyed and decieded what ever !!!! its my secret plan to eventually being totally bionic lol
has anyone else had a toe fused and was it as a day patient ???
what happens with an ankle replacment op ????
thanks MIchelle

    Hi Michelle,

oh that's was some appointment flower and I hope your ok with it all?

Did you ask about the wrist though as well or wasn't there time?

I know there have been a few with ankle work done but can't remember their names... one was recent and a fusion i think and ,may still be about on the first couple of pages maybe? Could be worth a look for you if they don't see your post and come in.

Toes... got 4 fused and joints removed on one foot 9it would have been 5 but one has been removed. They are fine and so much better than before.

The big toe ball joint... had half of each removed from both feet and again so much better than before.

Only problem I had was the dam wires... kept hitting them and believe me that you don't want to do

Flower it was a long time ago (the toes in the '80's and the big toe joint in 2001 and 2) but i have had much less trouble with them since they were done than before ....

Its so improved my walking for a while but I could do with another foot overhaul now... just some of it they can't help beyond a quick break and chip and reset.

Good luck and promise its going to make it so much better. Cris x

my left wrist was replaced last Nov the right wrist although painful and stiff is not nearly as bad as the left, but i do suffer from SMA spinal muscular atrophy and the worst is in my right arm the muscle is hard and very very weak
sounds as if the fusing of my big toe joint should hopefully rid me of some of the pain, do you walk any differently after the op ? I can just about wear hotters sandles any other shoe are much too tight across the toe joint as its so deformed, not too sure what a more indepth op is being done later on my right toe joint , would they do the ankle and toe on my right foot at the same time do you think ???
is day surgery with a GA be normal for a toe fusing ?
got to wait for my pre assesment date and then the op date got to be done within 18 weeks from my original appointment with my gp which was 3 weeks ago not bad going I was quite impressed my Gp sent me straight to the surgeon and avoided my rhumatologist who has a long list for an appointment,
TBH I just want rid of the pain and disability I'm suffering right now
    thanks again MIchelle

    Hi Michelle,

Mine were all GA's.... I have problems with lumber punctures and also its quite evasive when you think how small a toe is.

be lying if I said it didn't hurt.....

Was in hospital for 4 days with the joint removal and fuse and in 3 days with the ball joint trimming... (hey my big toes are a lot shorter than the ones next to them now as well) The fusion was difficult to begin with, couldn't put my foot on the floor for a couple of weeks actually but once the wires came out I was able to get the feet working a lot better and weight baring properly for a good 6 years after the big toe joints were done... though they still got metal in em and sometimes that hurts and causes a reaction but they normally take it out. I have a history of not healing and gong septic so they decided it would be safer (i lost the toe to gangrene wet mind and caused by an injury)

I had no plaster but those stiff shoes and did need them for the big toe ones for about 4 weeks and was told not to drive for 6.... that was the hard bit

I really hope some thing will bring you a bit of better luck soon and well hang in there and I promise you for the feet I have never looked back, it made that much difference and helped the spine as well cus I was more even. Cris x

    morning lavenderlady

how are you this morning after taking in all the info that your surgeon gave you yesterday..It must have been quite a shock and you had every right for that split second to wonder why me.

I can't advise on your toe surgery but i can suggest some shoes.
I wear cosyf**t cause they are the only shoe that will fit my foot.
they are very soft and extremly light. they fit up to a 5e width fit. I will admit they are not as fashionable as the lovely ho***er shoes but they are not all bad.

    Take care in the meantime

    Hi Michelle

I have no direct experience of such surgery, but do want to offer you my support and hope yo are ok with it all.

It seems really unfair to me....you certainly are having FAR FAR more than you fair share.

    Love and hugs

    Hi Michelle,

I have not had any ops..
Just wanted to wish you well..
If the doc has said you need the ops then maybe it's for the best if it makes you feel better..

    Hi Michelle

I am lucky in that I don't have any experience with arthritis surgery but just wanted to say sorry you are struggling so much and that I am thinking of you.

    Hi Michelle

Have been in contact with Anita (tiggernut) who had an ankle replacement in 2003.This was on the 'Ankle surgery' thread on 6th March onwards.

This was in response to an enquiry from jodie1,who is expecting the op at end of March.Am myself waiting for my pre-op,pending a possible ankle replacement in April/May.

Hope this info on ankle replacement may help

thanks everyone feeling like I have had a bad deal right now but then again am trying to think maybe I walk uneven and that is what triggers my back off so maybe it will help, my back, this morning my back was really aching, but did i listen to it? NO! I didnt and had to take Tramadol to ease the pain and lie down for a few hours, I have spondelothesis as well as OA in my back/spine,
Cris thanks for the info seems wierd i had my arm numbed and had twilight sleep for my TWR and stayed in for 3 nights, yet my toe op needs a GA and I can go home same day, totally different from you staying in for longer, mind you I am not complaining lol,
I too had a bad reaction when I had my wrist done coming up in hugh blisters before my eyes my GP sent me to Hospital as an emergency they were waiting for me, I had a/b's for 6 weeks in all, they say it was a hemotoma that caused the problems it refused to heal and took weeks of daily dressing changes and hospital visits etc, personally I think it was the iv a/b's after the op that could have triggered it all off as blisters is one of the side effects, ,
I guess I'm lucky to be getting the ops to hopefully help me with the pain and disfigurment of my joints but knowing all of my joints are affected does worry me , thanks once again every one , keep us all updated when you have your ops to ease my mind michellex
