Big needle tomorrow!

The rheumatology nurse has phoned this morning to say they can fit me in to the injection clinic tomorrow for my knee aspiration/steroid injection. A little short notice as I thought I'd have a couple of weeks to psych myself up for it! Still, in a way, I suppose it's better that to get it out of the way and not spend however long fretting about it. Think it'll be a sleepless night tonight though!

Just been out to stock up on DVDs for when I get home

Hope everyone is well - I find everything feels better in this lovely sunshine!

xx

    Hi Kirsty,
Wishing you well for tomorrow, I've had a knee done recently and my elbow unexpectedly last Friday. Try to rest afterwards, it was pretty painless initially, but I insisted (on very good advice) that they gave the local anaesthetic time to work first, a tip I pass on to your good self.

Good luck. If this is your first time then yes, ask them to give the local time to work before they start the rest of it. I was told to rest for 48 hours after, proper rest too, in order for the steroid to be given the best chance to work. I wish you well. DD

Don't watch, either. Take it from one who knows, it isn't a spectator sport.

    Hi Kirsty,

I am late but leaping in your pocket, sorry you will feel the whole side the pockets on go down

I have had this one a few times and be honest its kinda ok once they start. Its got varring results but the fluid is better taken out even if the steroid doesn't seem to do much. I have had the knees and elbows done and everyone else seems to be told to rest..... They just tell me to take it a bit easy.

Good luck and if I do snore in the pocket just shake it  Cris x

I'm back at home and making sure I rest properly. My lovely boyfriend has already been out to fetch me my beloved KFC!

As far as the aspiration goes, I'm not saying I'd like to have it done again anytime soon but I was pleasantly surprised by how little I felt. Took the good advice of others and definitely didn't look!

Thank you all so much for your kind messages both yesterday and this morning! Always amazed by how lovely you all are

It sounds as tho you had someone who knew what they were doing, which always helps! I am glad it went OK and I hope you feel long-lasting benefit from the steroid. I think the ideal is about three months so my fingers are crossed. I wish you well, and rest properly. DD

Thanks DD - sorry, I haven't really been around much over the last week to reply.
One week on and I only have positive things to say about the aspiration/steroid. It really has made a big difference. Good as well that I didn't really feel much discomfort in the few days immediately afterwards. My knees haven't looked so small in years! Fingers crossed that it lasts for a while
Unfortunately, I know your experience recently wasn't quite as good and that you were in a fair bit of pain afterwards. I hope things have started to settle down for you a bit now.

Kirsty that is wonderful news and good for others to hear who may be having this procedure done in the future.

    Thanks for the update.
