Hi,
Sorry not been on line much recently. I've had 7 lots of acupuncture....then had to go back for a review {to see if it was doing any good} but with one thing and another it was 6 weeks before he could see me}
Had an appointment a couple of days ago....he says he will do another session {roughly 8} I'm to ring him towards the end of May to make an appointment....that will be about 3 months since I've had the last lot.
He says they are very frustrated that they cant keep on giving it to people when it is helping but the NHS has limitations.....so its about 3 months between each lot...He says sometimes people go privately a couple of times in between the sessions.
He's referring me for a Healthy Life session {another referral to wait for LOL}....In our county if you are referred to our leisure centre or the one in the next market town by a doc or medical person, after an assessment they accept you.....You go to special sessions where they have trainers that are qualified to work with people with chronic illness and they know what will help and what will harm you.....each session costs about £1 which is a lot less than a normal session and you get the same time and special attention LOL.....I was there once before and they had me on the bicycle a lot...that was just after my THR and then the powers that be decided i had to see back specialists to see what was wrong with my back so the gym stopped doing the exercises with me because they wern't sure what was wrong. It was a pity because I was just getting into various exercises....now ....I'm back to square one...I'll be really sore LOL Oh well...thats me up to date I think
Love
Hileena

    Hi Hileena

Last week there was a discussion on Acupuncture. This week it is on Yoga. The Webmanager has okayed these discussions. Next week, which I think is the last week, it is on massage therapy.

If you would like to copy and paste your posting of your update on Acupuncture on to the thread which is now on Page 2 right at the bottom of the page. I am sure Maya would be interested to read about your Acupuncture experiences.

How frustrating. It's always the way, find summat that helps then it is taken from you - blasted budgets etc. I do wonder just how expensive it is for the NHS to provide acupuncture - surely if it's effective for someone that would mean less expenditure on drugs/doctors' time/appointments etc, one good acupuncturist could save them money rather than cost them extra - or am I being too naive? Probably.

The Healthy Life thing sounds good, once you are all sorted out and can back to that then that would be a very good thing, yes? I wish you, and Peter, well. DD

    Hi hileena
what a shame that you are having to limit the accupuncture to every 3 months. are you considering going inbetween sessions to a private person?
if you are i hope they are not too expensive.but if it helps you i think i would consider it.
The healthy life session sounds good, i hope that helps and the price is good too.
hope you are feeling ok today and have a good weekend

    Hi Hileena,

Oh the costing thing... why they can't see that it costs us so much more than money?!

I like the sound of the life clinic.... Long ago I had a major head injury and was under OT for months... had to learn to use the arm and speak properly again and they were brilliant! No other word for them! Kinda sounds a bit similar?

Small changes can make things so much easier they used to tell me and i think its true......

Will be interested to hear what they are doing with you Hileena.

I think your back is causing a few problems there as well..... did you ever get any help with it? Sorry i can't remember flower and know I should

I hope they will extend or get you in sooner and your not really back to square one it just feels like it. ((( ))) Cris xx

    Gosh

    Hileena

i am well impressed and very very pleased you are seeinghim again he was good wasn't he and it really did help. I agree with Cris we will cost them more without this sort of help.

Glad you will be getting some help from the leisure centre too. Wise to have waited till they were sure what was what even if it does mean you missed out on lots of sessions

    Thanks for the update

    Love

Hi, well I would like to think it would save them money in the long term but they dont think like that LOL
I dont know if I'll have in between sessions.....The last one I had {7th) one was done by a lady because he was a uni for the week and it did not work...I was really sore that week.....didnt matter so much because it was the NHS but I would hate to go privately and find that was the case....depends how sore I am.
Hi Chris this acupuncture is for my back......I think they have given up on the hip....they say its referred pain from my back. I did say to kris at my review....do you think they bothched the THR up....he said {and he wasnt being loyal to his medic friends}...its hard to tell....a lot of the time a THR makes a big difference, other times it doesnt make any differnce at all and in the rare cases it makes it worse.....you are entitiled to all your notes if you want them. What about you....got your face in the way of the botox yet :lol::lol:

    Hi Hileena,

I think its your back cus it all sounds very familiar and my hips are just on to 3rd stage, except they have welded up a bit so might be 4th I don't know?

    Anyway it's very familiar.....

I wonder if a pain clinic proper could help you at all. get a good one and they are worth their weight in gold but sadly they aren't all good eh?

No missed the face again... shouldn't have told her I was going to :lol:

Actually I had a possible side effect to it this last time but Hileena so much is wrong with e its hard to say for sure but possibly the patches or the botox lead to me throwing u every half hour for two day, that's day and night

Would still recommend it though and hell are my shoulders soft and wrinkle free :lol:

Mind it could so easily be something else as well.

leaving you a (((( )))) and a hope they will keep helping cus as you say it does save them money long term... they really don't get that though do they? Cris xx

Hi Hileena, what a shame the acupuncture has to cease and restart. When my sister had it to help her give up smoking she had a needle or similiar somewhere to twiddle when she felt the urge to smoke - pity you cant have something similiar! Would finances stretch to a couple of sessions inbetween treatment ending and restarting?

    Gym thing sounds good.

So what is happening? Are you going to have your other hip done or are they now convinced all the problems are in your back?

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hi Chris.....your aim is bad :lol: but at least I envy you the smooth shoulders  I did mention a pain clinic to my GP a while back and he said they would do no more for me than he could!!!!!! I had had one hip done and was waiting for the 2nd at that time.....he just said come back to me about pain relief. That was it. That sounds nasty ...the throwing up but you think its worth it??? sending ((((()))))back.

Hi Speedy.....finances might stretch to that ...havent researched it yet. The only thing is that the last week of acupuncture....that was done by a different person and i was sore afterwards....do I want to pay and maybe feel like that???? I'll have to see how I feel. How sore I am.
Looking forward with a little bit of aprehension as well to the gym thing.
I havent a clue what they are doing.....you know I was 2 weeks from having the 2nd one done when they sent me for the MRI and then said there was a lot going on in my back and i would have to see a back specialist first.....Ortho said I'll fit you in for your other hip about 4 to 6 weeks after you get your back sorted out.....Thats the last I've heard. I dont know if I want the other one done......I'm much less mobile than i was before they touched it.....remember the problems I had sleeping most of the night and how pleased I was after the 6 weeks were up......13 months later I'm a bit better but not a lot and thats only with s.r. diclofenic...by the way I only saw the back specialist once and he referred me to a physiotherapist and she referred my for acupuncture......so i'm totally confused Love Hileena

    Hi Hileena,

Oh your gp is so wrong! i mean so wrong...... Push for a referral and then see what they can offer you and with luck you will get a good one and it will really help.

yep don't hesitate in recommending the botox..... even with the possible side effects..... which could have nothing to do with it actually  It was one of the 3 things that might have done it... the other 2 can' be ruled out either  Wish i was less complicated

Hey would the physio refer you to a pain clinic? See your gp is just so wrong! Push for it flower cus there are so many things to help with pain and well might well be worth you going. Cris xx

    Hi Hileena,

might be an idea to try a phone call cus the pain clinics tend to have waiting lists though I have to say i saw mine with in 8 weeks of the rumo asking so it wasn't to bad.

Got to be worth a try and they understand pain and what it does to you as well. I couldn't keep going without the help mine has given me and she has promised to keep trying with the neck but so far the botox has worked cus it just can't lock back up.... love and a ((( ))) the silky shouldered one  xx

    Hi Hileena,

There are variations between pain clinic but mine when I first went gave me a couple of charts to fill in, like 1 - 10 re how much pain your in and a questionnaire about how much its impacting on your life, sleep, work, happiness etc.

Then she saw me and examined me and came up with a plan to try and help minimise the pain.

She has actually also been very god and pushed other consultants to doing more and looking at other things.

The only downside for me was she asked me to choice which it i needed the most help with as she hasn't time to do them all.....I choice my neck cus that's the one that does the worst type of pain ....

Since I started to get the temp paralyzation she has done a bit more to the lumber as well and without her I would be more stuffed than I am

I hoe you find the one they send you to has someone as good and you get some real help. (((( )))) and a hope Cris xx
