Has anyone any experience with the use of Pernadol Gel, an extract from the Green Lipped Mussel.
The write-up extolls it's relief of pain properties.
I have OR in the hip and find pain killing tablets give me bad side effects!! so I am tempted to try it, but would appreciate feedback before spending.

Yes, My mother-in-law uses it for her knees and suggested that I try it, she swears by it.
I found that I didn't like the cold effect so I always use either the heat rub or tens machine, but it is certainly worth you trying.

I use pernaton gel and the bath treatment I do find that it does bring relief.0

I haven't tried this but I also can't understand how a cream/gel rubbed onto the skin can help with joint pain which is often deep inside and not near the surface. :???:Love, Legs x

I would guess it helps in the same way as Voltarol etc: whatever the active ingredients are they are absorbed into the skin thus reaching the nerves that transmit pain. These things won't affect the progress of OA or restore any damage but if it helps one think that things are easing well, why not? I always reckon that those that swear by these things tend to be those who don't have any form of arthritis, just the usual clicks and grates of advancing years. I do wonder what they feel like, and why those that have them find them so untenable. They should try being us! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Haven't used the gel.........
But I do take Green Lipped Mussel powder supplements.
Do they work? No idea.
Do they help me mentally with a placebo effect? For sure.0 -
It will be ingested as DD said through the skin same as volterol gel etc.
Hmerman...l find most pain meds make me a bit queasy too, so suggest you ask your GP to look at alternatives.....there ARE options, but they may cost GP more such as slow release med they dont give you the HIGH like the normal ones do or patches?
Good luck

I dont know how it works but it does for a temporary period.0

Everything works temporarily, whether it be pain dullers, this gel, TENs, magnets or a cheering-myself-up-cream cake. I think that is the fundamental problem we all face - the utter lack of permanent relief! If it helps, even just a little, then that is all that matters. DDHave you got the despatches? Of course a permanent cure would be the thing. My arthritis varies in severity too also in location though pain in the hips seem to be a permament feature.0

Well I have tried it and found it beneficial, I apply at bedtime and it holds the pain down allowing me to get off to sleep. I restrict the use to bedtime for economy, plus the fact that during the day I find that activity can ease the pain plus my mind is occupied.0
