The reassessment is taking place over the next 3 yrs and started last October.
Simply put, the assessment will follow these steps:
1) a letter telling you about the changes i.e. current recipients of Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disability Allowance and Income Support will be reassessed during this period.
2) you will receive a follow up phone call regarding the letter.
3) you will be sent an ES50 form to complete & return within a specified time (i think its 28 days)
4) based on the information provided on the ES50 a decision will be made as to whether you will be required to attend a Work Capability Assessment which will mean an appointment at a designated health centre where you will be asked a number of set questions and scored depending on the answers given.
5) you will be notified by phone contact and/or letter of the outcome.
6) you will be placed in one of two groups:
- Support Group - you will not be expected to look for work and will continue to be financially supported by the state by receiving Employment & Support Allowance
- Work Related Activity Group - you will be expected to look for suitable work and will be eligible to apply for Job Seekers Allowance
You have the right to appeal against a decision if you think it is wrong but will have to do so within a specified time. If you express a wish to appeal within the specified time, you should continue to receive your benefit, at the basic rate, until the outcome of the appeal.

HI Ron
l bet all of us on those benefits will be called in as l suspect 'certain' illnesses/disabilities will be targetted.
How are they going to get the drug addicts and alcoholics back to work? a lot of those are in receipt of sickness benefits aren't thye?
Love
Toni xx :sad:0 -
True Toni, I don't know but If the illness is genuine then people shouldn't be harrassed.0

We are an easy target Ron, I know of people that have never worked...they are in there thirties, and when they are sent for a job interview, they have a drink to make sure they can smell it on them....hence know job
Think I will become a druggie....wont have any pain and they would leave me alone

Hi Babs, I guess we all know someone like that. There's a bloke I see around town and he is about 40 and never worked a day in his life, yet he's outside Wetherspoons most days.
Another bloke lives not too far from us, he's in his 60's and again never worked a day, seems to have money to spend on beer and **** though.
But, that said, what makes my blood boil is all the Polish and Romians that we are keeping now. A family I know of have been given a 3 bed house with garage, a car so that they can look for work. Yet neither of them intend to look for a job. They gloat that they are living the life of Riley at our expense.0 -

It's fair comment though.
I'm watching a programme on BBC1 about people over 50 that cant find work. If able bodied people cant find work, how on Earth can people with
disabilities be expected to return to work?0 -

It is a worrying time, for those of us who have disabilities and or multiple health problems, as people rightly say, I think we are going to be targeted.
They have just written to me to say that I will get £10 a month increase, (so my summer cruise has just been booked), and as long as there are no changes then payments will continue, well, there are changes and more health issues.
This follows a letter from last September I think it was, saying that we no longer need any further medical evidence, nor the IB50 form, etc. I assume, probably wrongly, that I won't be first in line to be called for assessment. We will see.XX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0 -
theres not a lot thats great about great briton any more if your born and bred here,0

There goes Rehab with his controlling ways again, cant you take anything that people say as truth and not twist your evil ways?
Everything I said is truth and not fabrication.
For your information they have had two cars in 12 months, on the pretext of finding work, they seem to revel in the fact that haven't paid for them.
They were in a one bed flat and have just been given a 3 bed house with garage attached. I know for a fact there are thousands of couples with children that have been on the council waiting list for years waiting for a 3 bed house.0 -

Yes, I do have access to the local gov council waiting lists, and I do know exactly who and how many are on the waiting lists. In fact we have an army barracks close by, it hasn't been manned for 10 years now and is currently holding 15.000 refugees. They are jumping the queue and being housed while couples with children are in desperate need of a home. Nothing I can do about it, they have rights and they know they do.
As for the cars, yes that is fact, some 10 miles from us is a Sharpe's and Toyota factory, some are taken on while others would rather live on benefits, but they claim a car while looking for work.
We do have a few decent Polish and Romanian who work very hard to keep their families, but I'm afraid to say they are few and far between.
There's no getting away from the fact that the majority though are draining the system. Fact whether you want to disbelieve or not.
Again, I am pointing out where the government and local admin are getting their priorities wrong. I could go on but there's little point in someone who buries his head in the ground to all that is happening in the country.0 -

I don't want to walk into a row but I remember being told that one family were given a car because it cost the council so much in ferrying the children to school by taxi that it was cheaper to give them an old banger to get them to take their own children to school. It was many years ago.... but just wondering if it is a hush hush arrangement by the council ( a bit like large families having to have 2 houses knocked into one).

Hi Elizabeth.. You ok hun??
If that was right (never know these days, wouldn't put it past some idiot councils to ferry numpty brats to and from the cinema in gold carriages) why the Hell were they sending taxis at all
I am dubious about most of the stories, but certainly find them credible..
