An update on dorcas.

dorcas had an appointment today with the orthopaedic department and it all went swimmingly well, but it has left her feeling very tired so she has asked me to post this update.
She has a pre-op appointment this coming Friday re the next round of wrist and hand surgery - that is about the ulna removal and finger joint replacement, and that will hopefully happen in the very near future. They then hope to call her in in about threee months to have her right knee replaced - the person she saw today reckons that a way to help her be more mobile during the recovery after this op can be found, unlike the bod she saw last year who indicated that that idea was a non-starter. (We are all at the mercy of individual opinion on so many occasions, yes?) Once she has recovered from that then the left knee will be next. Her joint damage is extensive and replacements are the only option.
dorcas, I wish you well for Friday, I hope the hand stuff happens sooner rather than later and as for the other two - well, it can only be a good thing, yes? Far less pain, greatly enhanced mobility - what's not to like?

Hi iris.. I think this sounds very good. It will be difficult in the short term having all these procedures, but well worth it in the long term to have improved mobility and also to have less pain

Morning gorgeous, I hope all is as well with you as it can be. I know you have your pre-op appointment for the hand surgery tomorrow, I hope all goes well and that they can attend to you sooner rather than later. If I remember right the last hand op came very soon after the pre-op, let's hope that happens again! Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. Diabolic.
PS If it becomes necessary I would consider re-opening the MASH unit, just for you.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Thank you Damsel for this thread and a BIG thank you to all you lovely people for your kind and supportive messages.
:!:
It's been a busy time recently between rheummy, OT and ortho but here's a wee summary...
As DD said I've seen ortho knee and am on the list for the first of two knee replacements.... right knee(which is badly eroded and joint distorted) will be done first, closely followed by the left .
I also had an appointment at Rheummy, who have said there is nothing much more they could do to try to halt the PA... but after a bit of discussion (desperation on my part) they' are putting my name forward as a special case to see if funding / permission will be given for me to start Certolizumab which apparently isn't licensed for PA.
The consultant is also contacting a Professor MacInnes head of Immunology and Research to see if he has any clinical trials that I could be included on. So I count myself lucky that there is still willingness to help me.
I have my pre-op tomorrow morn for the hand op (fused hand) to remove the ulna head and give me an index finger middle joint replacement. Not sure when the op will be but will find out tomorrow.
Community Ot have finally caught up with me and are providing a stair lit, wheelchair and rise and recline chair amongst other bits and bobs
So arther continues to dominate but I'm still fighting back.
Thanks again for all your support! I will have my jacket on tomorrow with lots of pockets.!
Love and a million thanks.

Oh Iris it is good to hear from you, but my goodness I bet you didnt know where to start.
So its your hand first, I am so glad they are putting you forward for the new treatment, or even a trial, they wont give up on you they know you are a fighter.
I will be in your pocket tomorrow, and I will bring more good vibes with me.
Wishing you well with everything
Lots of love and hugs (((((())))
