Hiya,
My hips have been bothering me with clicking and pain. My right hip is very sore but on the outer side-does that make sense? It's sore to touch as if I should have a bruise there but not banged it. I wonder if it could be a bursa thingy? It's very sore.

Hi, When I had bursitis of the hip the pain was on the outside, but I'm not medical and it sounds as if a visit to your GP is the best thing I can think of.
When I had mine, I had an injection in it and it soon got better, but that was a while ago, before I had much arthritis!

Hope you soon get it sorted, it sounds very painful and your GP will be able to put your mind at rest. Love Suexx

Hi, Well, you know, I'm not too bad at the moment, but my back and really, my neck are playing up a bit. I've got nerve problems, but they say although I'll need surgery in a few years, the longer I manage the better as the op is not not nice and sometimes goes wrong! Anyway, I can live with it, at the moment.
Hope things go well for you. That hip problem sounds painful. Love Suexx

    Hi Magenta,

I think when there's fluid around a joint it can make it feel sore and bruised to the touch. An ice pack might help.

    Hi Eileen,

Sorry this one is happening to you flower. Mine do it but whether its from the back or the hips i don't know. Both of mine have arthritis and its the outside from the point of hip to half way down the out side of the femur that huts at times, then it stops and then it starts again when it feels like it.

I hope it will soon back off. ((((( ))))) Cris xx

    Hi Magenta

Sorry that does sound painful and is a new one on me so am interested in what others have said here. My pain is definately in the joint and doesn't ever seem to be on the outside. I hope you find something that helps soon or that the doc can advise. By the way I am impressed did you say you CAN cross your legs!
Hope you get some relief soon.
    take care

Hi Magenta, As I have said previously while I had my 'flare up!' Both my hips where tender and inflamed and very sore to touch like a bruise but there is no bruise they are still slightly inflamed and sore and painful to touch. I don't know what has caused this I just put it down to the Osteo-porosis/ Fibromialgia. Hope this helps and makes you realise your not the only one their are a few of us! If you ever want to talk please feel free to contact me.

    Hi Magenta

I was told i.l had busitis when l had similar but l don't think tehy were right.

Suggest you rub in an anti-inflam gel and lie on the other side with pillow beween knees.

If it was bursitis l agree with whoever said ice that and rest (walking stick even) is the first course of action - well that and seeing the doc?.....sorry :???:

    Love

    Hi all,
Thanks for all your messages
Got up this morning and my left hip was excrutiating. The right one was ok but I've been out shopping today and the pain on the outside of right hip is slowly coming back but the left one-ouch! I've been limping the whole time. It's stiff but there's pain with every movement.
    I'll go back to drs,
    Thanks Eileen xx

Dear Bubbadog, thanks for your kind invite to contact you if I need to. I've also got fibro. I'm just so tired of all this. I'll need to look up your initial post about your hips, Eileen x

Chris, I can only just manage to cross my legs  I'm doing it out of habit but I think I'll be stopping that soon xxx

Don't know if this'll help. I have a similar thing, it turned out to be a large muscle that hangs off the pelvis. Sports massage/physio has helped and one more session to go to.

I have had the bursitis thing and the pain is different.

    its a grin, honest!

    Hi Magenta,

Ooh that sounds painful. Don't keep crossing and uncrossing your legs - it is bad for your hip joint. I think you should rest and apply regular ice packs. If it doesn't quickly improve go and see your GP.

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hello Magenta, How are you today? I hope you will go and see the doc about that hip. I know its a pain (in more ways than one)!
I know how you must feel when you have to keep going, I'm just the same, I've even managed obs and gynea a few months ago. But at 55, I'm not going to have a baby, although that WOULD be a good one to manage, at 55 and 25 years after a hystorectomy.:lol:
    Take care, love Suexxx

    Hi,

Just wanted to say that I have a very similar sort of pain in the outside top of my leg - sometimes feel like toothache , but in the hip area, when it's at its worst, if that makes sense! Lying on it is particularly painful. I have OA in my lumbar spine, and the physio thinks it's a sort of referred pain from that, rather than OA in the hip joint. (I don't have any clicking in that joint.) My mum has the same sort of OA and pain, and they did call it bursitis (or something like that) and have given her cortisome injections in it, which have helped a bit.

Definitely worth asking a GP to have a look, I'd say, as an injection might help.

Hello, I just had to reply to this asap!! My experience of pain in, what sounds like the same place, was bursitis. I was totally disabled by the pain for a while and tried everything. I have struggled with it for about 18 months now and have only just found something that really helps. DEF go to the doctor and get it checked. If it does turn out to be bursitis try Deep Freeze gel and also...now this is going to sound TOTALLY random - mine was due to a tightened iliotibial band (so only do this if a physio checks that is what it is) and my husband (after being taught by the physio) really massages my outer thigh and rolls a rolling pin up and down the outside of my leg!! It REALLY has helped the bursa pain masses and masses. Whenever I feel it getting worse again (every few days) we do the rolling pin trick and it helps. I wish I'd tried this back in the very beginning but perhaps it would have been too sore then. Anyway, I really hope that helps and that it gets better soon.

    Hiya,
I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been trying to take a break from the site but looking in every day. I just wanted to say thanks for your replies. The pain on my right hip has eased off so maybe it wasn't bursitis but I don't know. My left hip now is the one causing me more pain but that's more inside, at the joint, when I walk.
The rolling pin sounds a bit scary!
    Thanks,

    Hi Eileeen

hope you do get to the doc and he does have some ideas....could still be bursitis even if all is well(ish) now.

And St lucia - the rolling pion idea is actually a good one...sounds like something they would recomend in that book someone (was it you Speedy?) to sort out trigger points.

    Love

    Toni xx
