Hello all,

It is likely I will be having arthroscopic surgery on my ankle to remove a lump of bone. I was wondering, for those who have had this type of surgery (on any joint), what is the recovery time like? It will probably be in the summer and I want to work out how mobile I'll be, so I can arrange work and stuff. I know it's not going to be an exact science but I was wondering roughly how quickly people recover. The ortho said people are able to weight bear on it within a few days but I didn't get a chance to ask a lot of questions.

Thank you,
Sophie :)

Arthroscopic surgery (keyhole) is far less invasive than the usual method so the recovery time tends to be much less. As with all these matters, however, no precise timings can be given - we are all different in how we recover but it's possible that within maybe three weeks you will be back to your usual self. Remember to ask the question when you have your pre-op assessment! When I had my knee done I had two weeks off work (I am self-employed, I could have had longer but didn't need to). DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Starburst

Just wrote your name without the second 'R'

I haven't had it but a friend had a shoulder arthroscopy and it was about 6 weeks for her before she went back to work, but as a carer that would be physical.

Hope a person who has had this will let you know soon how long it was for them.

    Love

    Hi Sophie,

I have had 2 ops the same as you will be having, the first on took me 3 weeks and I was back up and around. The second was 2 weeks, but like the others have said, everyone is different and it depends on how many osteophytes they remove, where they are and how much the soft tissue is aggrivated.
Good luck with it and I hope you have as much success with the op as I did on my first one.

I had an athroscopic op last may to see what was going on in my wrist and to make sure a TWR was the right op to do, it healed very quickly but they did not do anything and i needed the TWR done last November, I hope it heals really quick good luck michelle

Thank you for the replies. I'm having a steroid injection in a couple of weeks and then he wants to see me a month later.

    Hi Sophie
I have not long ago had one on my hip, it was more to have a look what was going on, I was sore for a few days, but it wasn't bad.
Good luck with everything, and let us know how you are.
