My sister is coming for the weekend (a rarity) and she's just announced she's a vegan

Any ideas what I can feed her?

Preferably not too complicated as I need to feed her myself and and a two year old (with remarkably sophisticated taste...favourite food = yorkshire blue cheese, closely followed by St Agur)

Thanks
Chrissie

Cauliflower cheese springs immediately to mind. Lentil soup, vegetable curry, I also have a tomato arrabatia pasta sauce reipe. a sweet potato and tomato soup recipe. Let me know if fancy trying any, and I will post recipe. Hands far too painful tonight, if you want to try one, let me know.

I think Jamie Oliver does a lot of veggie recipes such as veg lasagne etc. Could try goggling his 30 min recipes, I think it was channel 4 his program was on.

Does she eat fish?? Salmon in foil with butter and lemon, jacket pot and broccoli.

    Hope this helps

Mixed bean curry, I eat meat but this really floats my boat, Watrose curry sauce(don't use Pataka's way to fatty) a tin of mixed beans and one of Barlloti beans for added texture, chopped onions fried in olive oil and garlic, add coconut milk and some Naga chilli powder and your away!. Oh don't forget the Nan bread and lime pickle!

doing a bit of diggin for you, you can buy vegan sausage, jacket potato or mash (use dairy free butter/marg, they are available amoungst the normal butters and some veg or beans, you and little one can have normal sausages.

you could make a chilli, use soya mince instead of normal mince, ive eaten it before and found no differance except slightly finer. serve with rice.
can also do a spaghetti bolougnaise or shepards pie with soya mince ( can get vegan stock cubes if needed

jacket potato with beans or humous

salad with parsnip and potato patties, ( mash potato and finely chopped cooked parsnip, fried leek and onion Fine cut) mix together add herbs or chilli or curry make into patty shapes and fry for a couple of mins each side.

    hope this helpa a little

Not helped by the fact that her other half is a chef :???:

I am looking forward to seeing her as its been ages (jobs & distance  ) and my little one is v. excited to see his auntie

    Hi Chrissie,

Most of the supermarkets have a reasonable selection of vegan products in the vegetarian/freefrom aisles and freezers.

I am a vegan myself and pretty much eat everything my husband does in my own way eg, he eats meat and three veg, I eat vegie burger and three veg, he eats spaghetti bolognese, I eat spag bol using soya mince. There are also loads of indian dishes to try as well and soy/rice/other milk is avaialble in the UHT section.

Enjoy her visit and good luck with the cooking :)

    Hi Chrissie,

One of my best friends is a vegan and she comes round to dinner. What about vegetable paella or an onion tart or vegetable lasagne made with soya milk white sauce instead of cream sauce or even vegetable goulash without the soured cream?

My aunt is one as well. Eats soya instead of diary ......most supermarkets do soya milk, yogurts/deserts. You can make cheat sauces using cornflour to put on a selection of veg and bake in the oven in a tomotoe sauce (this can be made with a tine of toms, garlic paste pepper and salt). Pasta is a no because of eggs but i think rice noodles maybe ok. My aunt is loads of indian food and rice so that should help you. You could just ask her what she would like and as for the recipe??? Hope you have a nice visit..

Given your health difficulties I am amazed she doesn't have the consideration to bring her own grub. As vegans avoid everything that could be remotely connected to any living form I suggest an entree of fresh air, followed by a main course of ice cubes and then dessert could be a nice half pint of water. Failing that there are some good suggestions on here if you are able to get the required ingredients. I hope she doesn't wear leather shoes or carry a leather handbag - if she is she ain't doing it proper!

This situation that you are facing reminds me of my favourite Frankie Boyle joke. I am chortling as I type. DD

    Hi

I make a courgette and leek bake and all my family love it...The ingredients are 3 courgettes, 3 leeks all sliced up, one baking potato cubed and couple garlic cloves in oil......Then add veg stock, add the potato (sometimes i add parsnips too).....I then add in leeks, courgettes and season with mixed herbs. Let them all cook and then get some soft cheese (you can get soya ones) and mixed with grated cheese add half teaspoon of paprika and caynne pepper and some tomato puree (but obviously you cant use that.....I guess you could make a white sauce with soya milk.......Then put all veggies in a baking dish, top with sauce and i sliced some tomatoes. on top and grill.....I think you can buy vegan cheese too but if not just layer with other tasty veg.......

May or may not be of use....

Lol TBH that's what she would be getting if hubby was here as a dedicated eater of a high cholesterol diet (the complete opposite of what he advises his patients to eat) he doesn't consider it a meal if it doesn't have some sort of meat or cheese or both in it! Thankfully he's working so I've only got to work out for the 3 of us

Oh, your cardiologist OH is a one, isn't he? 'Don't do as I do, do as I say.' Bossy lot, doctors, aren't they? And in his case a tad hypocritical. I hope you can find a recipe to suit. Good luck! DD
