There are all sorts of theories about what foods etc might affect or trigger arthritis flares. Dairy is thought to be a culprit, as is yeast, gluten and acids. Everyone is different in what affects them and how and it can take a while to find out what the culprits are. One thing is guaranteed I reckon - it will always be something that you like. It's never foods you dislike that cause trouble. DD

I Had to stop having cheese and other dairy products after I had my gal bladder out! As if I had say a bowl of cereals a few minutes after eatting I would start to have tummy cramps and get a bad headache. I would be very poorly alday! So I decided with out any GP help to just drop any dairy and caffine another trouble maker!
And ever since I have had no tummy cramps and no headaches!
The only thing slightly dairy I have is actimal in the morning not sure if it even has any dairy in it!! I have a glass of pineapple & coconut juice and actimal in morning.
Even told my GP and she was surprised and said if it works great!

    Hi Val
Some medical people believe that some Arthur's are made worse by eating certain foods, apparently they are food you could have an allergy to, and one of them is dairy products.
So I suppose it makes sense to cut different foods out and see how it goes.
    Good Luck

Hi everyone is the food issue been actually tested anywhere??
Just wondering because a lot of different things are said about dairy with breast cancer and a lot of people change to soya...but here is the catch no real testing or research has been done in this area. Also cutting out diary then can lead to calcium defiances, which then leads onto thinning of the bones...you know the rest.
I wish that there could be some research done in this area so people knew what to do. Must admit i have been down the soya root...rice milk yuk...but have returned to diary. I am not sure whether it does effect my arthur to be honest and to test the theory it would mean doing a proper elimination diet... and reintroducing foods slowly.
Might make a mental note next time i eat it and see if it does effect it...

my mil often says that various foods aggrevate her oa and is often telling me what is good for me (ra) but to be honest i don't really suffer any more or less choose what i eat.

val it really does sound as if chhese affects you though....i hope the flare calms down soon.

Mil often says too that mushrooms make her feel good.....is she eating the magic kind cause they do nothing for me

Too much tomato causes me grief - small amount I seem to be OK with and oranges sometimes aggravate my RA - in other words, anything acidic.

Will watch the dairy (cheese in particular) in the future as I hadn't noticed any problems (so far).

    We are all so different

I found all dairy cheese and wheat and caffeine caused flares and then read in my homeopathic book by Dr Andrew Lockie suggesting these foods are to be avoided along with sugar salt and chocolate and since I have had OA it has kept it at buy, I also use homeopathic remedies with success too. I also exercise walk my dog and squeeze my hands around a soft ball as much as possible along with relaxing beneficial rest. I also test whatever I eat and drink with the pendulum method.
