Hi Guys - does anyone know what a CCP (Cyclic citrullinated Peptide) shows??
I had more bllods a while ago and all came back fine or so i thought - App this test had to be sent to Barts in London and the results have come back and i've had a letter asking me to go and discuss the reslts with the doctor. Have an appointment for next week but just wondered what this test was for and what it means????
Thank you

Hi,
Are you referring to 'anti-ccp'?
If you've tested positive for anti-ccp anti-bodies it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that you either have rheumatoid arthritis or will develop it in the future.
It's a more accurate & predictive test than the one for rheumatoid factor.
I have Psoriatic Arthritis but am also anti-ccp positive though.....it's a little confusing.

Thanks Chris - I'm seeing the doctor on Wednesday so i'll let you know what they say.
Keith - Yes thats the test but i dont know anything about the results. I had the blood tests done about 6 weeks ago and as far as i knew they were all fine. Then i got a letter saying i needed to contact the surgery and when i did they said this test had to be sent to London and has only just come back and i have to see the doctor to discuss the results???

Hi Karen,
I'm not a doctor & learnt all I know about anti-ccp via Google as when my rheumatologist told me I'd tested a 'weak positive' at 21 (I believe under 20 is 'normal') I didn't really question him more about it! I'm seeing him again on the 20th and have a list of questions as long as my arm!
I would presume you've tested positive otherwise they wouldn't want to see you.
Do you have any symptoms of arthritis? Joint pain, stiffness? Was there a reason your bloods were tested?
From what I understand it's predictive of rheumatoid arthritis. It doesn't mean you have it now, just means that there's a likelihood you'll go on to develop it - when, nobody knows unfortunately.
I'd say try not to panic too much & just wait to see what the doc has to say.

Morning Guys - Just to say that I've managed to get an app this morning at 11 to discuss this ccp blood test - Not my normal GP as he's on holiday for 2 weeks.
I was just wondering if there were any questions etc that i should be asking???
Thanks in advance

Thanks Guys - Well, a complete waste of time! My GP is on holiday so saw another one who said he didn't know what the test meant but thinks its border line and he'll re test in 6 months - I said i wanted him to refer me back to Rheumy which he said he'll do but i walked out none the wiser!!!!
I've called the surgery and spoke to the practice manager who said its not a "routine" test but he will get another doctor to call me back today to hopefully explain things.
I asked what the result read and he said 6.9 and app they like it to be under 9? So hows that borderline? I also read that a positive test is over 5 but as i say he just didn't understand it at all - Good grief!!0 -
Way to play games with your head eh??
I'm sure you'll nail someone down for an answer!!
Regarding the Anti-ccp test - my reference numbers are a little different to what you quoted :
normal range is <19
weak positive: 20-39
moderate positive: 40-59
strong positive: >60

Hi Karen,
Is there any chance you're getting CRP and anti-CCP mixed up? I only say this because I know my drs say me CRP should be below 10.0 -
Hi Starburst - Well after looking at related stuff thats what i thought too - but when i phoned to ask the name of the blood test in question which was being looked at they said it was Cyclic Citrull Inated Peptide (I asked her to spell it for me) and this was the one that they had to send to Barts in London - so i gather this is the ccp?
Maybe the doctor was looking at the wrong one this morning?... I dont know, bit fed up and still waiting for doctor to call me.
