Hello all

Had my 1st Physio appointment yesterday and my last..lol.

But in fairness the man was very nice, but cause I was in so much pain he could't do anything with me or for me! He did give me a nice pair of crutches though and throw away my walking stick!

He also asked me to have a think about trying hydrotherapy in the pool as it might beniefit me as its less painful in the water, so I have put my name down, but there's a long waiting list., so we'll wait and see!

On a bad side though, he has said that I have something wrong with my feet now as my feet are too flat, and giving me bad posture and might be adding to my osteoarthritis in my Hip, so is referring me to the Podiatry dept to have a look, as he reckons I've had it since a child, bearing in mind I'm nearly 34 ! just more to add to the list now..

Hope ur all having a pain freeish day, and enjoyin this lush sunshine!

x

    Hi Tilly,

Oh flowr its horrible when your young and trapped in some ancient body!

Hydro is so much better. You can move so much more and have less pain when in the water and that warm as well.

I so agree with your 1st and last! i did the same long ago and didn't see another one for over 20 years

Better you have the crutches flower cus that will help give you more support and more evenness.

hang in there flower maybe once you see the podent you will have better feet movement and that leads to better everything as well. Cris x

    Oh pants Tilly

To be a bit more positive you have the crutches and they may help and a couple of ideas too...the feet issue and teh hydro which should be rather lovely.

Hugs for you and dont feel too bad.

There is a bit of a plan

    Love

Flat feet seems to go with the territory, mine are as flat as pancakes, a wet footprint left by me looks just like someone has drawn round my hoof!

I reckon you will eventually be seen by an orthotist (is that the right word?) who will be able to design some supports for your feet, ensuring that they are lifted in all the right places. I watched in astonishment as a physio tried various moulded insoles etc under my feet - my knee caps changed position as the bones etc aligned more correctly. I don't have any tailor-made insoles, just some I bought from the Scholl shop, but they do help -when I remember to stuff 'em in my shoes that is!

Get your stick back - they are nice to have to hand for the better days. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi tilly

I think the hydro pool is a good idea. I had it years ago (when I could dress my self) and it was brilliant. Alot better than physio as all they did was hurt me. The only good thing I can say about physios is they taught me how to walk on my proshetic leg after being without one for 6 months. (6 yrs ago). It is funny how i forgot what to do.

Hope the crutches make it easier for you and you get some insoles for your feet. I too have very flat feet. used to be size 6 and slim now they aare size 4 and fat  I dont use insoles anymore.

Hope you get to the top of the list for the pool pretty quickly.

    Hi Tilly
I had a physio assessment earlier on in the year and they said they couldnt help me - however they did refer me for hydrotherapy and I got an appointment within a couple of weeks I have had four sessions at the hydro pool at the hospital and now I have been referrred to the rehab centre so that I can have sessions for a longer period and if and when it finishes I can go back if I need to with just a self referral as it is deemed to be long term!
Who is a luck girl then?

    Hi Tilly

Oh dear a bit of a mixed appointment then. At least the physio wasn't going to push it for you and do hope you don't have to wait too long for the hydro. I absolutely loved it but don't be tempted to try too hard as it does leave you shattered. Hope the referral to the foot people helps too.
    Hang in there. ((( )))

    Hi Tilly,

hydro used to work to really help me (in the short term) until surgery was unavoidable.

I have the same problem with my feet. I wear insoles and it has improved my gait and helps my knees. My gait is better too. They take some getting used too and I couldn't tolerate them until after my hip op ... depends on what stage your arther is at.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Thanks speedy for ur reply,

Hoping the hydro helps too, from what everyone has been saying it seems really good!

As for the thing wrong with my feet , my mum did replie that she's gonna sue "Clarks shoes" as I always had the best shoes as a kid, as the physio said I've had this since a kid..lol. Anyhow glad they've picked it up now, another thing to add to the list!

    Hope ur well

I too was told I had very low arches and was referred for insoles by the rheumy, however the physio told me that it was better to try and alter the way I stand and by doing that it would go a long way to countering the effects of fallen arches, and more successfully than using insoles. I have tried to stand correctly, and I think it has made a difference to how my knees, in particular, are aligned.

Hydro sounds a good strategy, and I hope you don't have to wait too long.
