Have pre-op appointment on the 18th April at 2.30pm with the surgeon to decide what 'road to go down' i.e ankle replacement or fusion (surgery has been arranged for the 28th April).
Looks like the long wait is coming to an end.Be glad when it's done after all the pain and hobbling, but very apprehensive.
Will keep you posted on the decision, wish me luck!!See if I can pop into Val's cafe on the way for a strong cuppa (after seeing the rheumy nurse in the morning - some day!).

Hi Ron, on this sunny day. Not too long to wait then, for the pre op assessment (that is my son's 30th birthday) and the op later this month. It is only natural to be feeling apprehensive, I know what you mean, having had two knee replacements and three toes sorted up, well hopefully, because I am only into 1.5 weeks post op re the toes. If you do as you are told then I am sure all will be well.

I hope your rheumy nurse appointment went ok and a cup of something strong will be waiting for you in the cafe as soon as you arrive

Good luck Ron and Joan. I will be following down this path in the near future but have no date yet. I think mine will be a triple fusion and I am holding out as long as I can! I am really worried too.

Good luck to you both with your pre-ops on the 18th.

    Hi Ron,

Personally I would have the replacement.
I know a chap who had a fusion and after 13 weeks in a non weight bearing cast it hadn't fused and he had to have it again!!
As I've told you before I have had mine for 8 years and it's been great although it is hurting a bit at the moment but I don't think it's the joint as the pain is more round my heel.I have a yearly check up 2nd June so I will find out then hopefully.
Anyway good luck with whatever you decide.
    Anita.

Great time off the year to have your op. Spring weather for your recovery and rehab. Just think at the end of this month you will be rid of the awful pain and focusing on getting your mobility back!!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Ron,
Good luck with your appointment on the 18th. As you say, to be rid of the constant pain will make your life so much easier.
Hopefully once the decision has been made you will be able to ask more questions and have a better idea as to what to expect.
    Take care,
    I x

I hope everything goes well for you too Joan.

    Hi Ron,

Good luck with the pre-op and hopefully they decide what will be better for you in the long run.

I'm doing quite good now with my fusion. only 4 weeks to go until the 12 week point and hopefully no more cast. Putting quite a bit of weight on it with no pain at the moment but time will tell.

    Best wishes,

    rob

Thanks to all for your support,I will need extra large pockets for that day!
Rob it doesn't seem possible that you had the op 2 months ago and really glad you are doing well and long may it continue.
Anita let's hope it's not the joint giving you pain (I'm sure it won't be).June 2nd seems a long way off, best of luck but will contact you nearer the time.
