Humira starting to work?...

Hi everyone,
Well, I've had 2 shots of Humira so far, today I got up a lot less achy. The fingers on my left hand weren't as stiff or sore (although 2 will never straighten) the knee was not too sore and my elbows were suspiciously missing the never-ending drive you up the wall pain whenever you move them. I have not taken any pain relief!!!! I'm being extremely cautious, taken things slowly just to test the waters so to speak. But an hour ago I couldn't resist the lure of my sun filled garden and mowed the lawn  I'm not exaggerating I couldn't do it last year as the pain in my fingers, wrists, elbows....the list goes on, was too much.
I'm still not sore, bit achy but nothing like what I usually feel.
So happy! I know it could be a blip, but I'll take it! So happy to feel normal and useful for once! Xxxx

    Thanks Keith,
Having tried Sulfasalazine and Methotrexate (still on them) for a year and on celebrex, tramadol etc, I was sceptical about anti TNF working. I can't put it down to anything else, I am on antibiotics for an ear infection, but I doubt that's got anything to do with this.
As you say long may it last! x

    Thanks Tilly,
I'm still a bit 'freaked out' that I've got through the whole day in not nearly as much pain, and not having to take anything  specially as I mowed the lawn, I'm almost waiting for the bubble to burst :???: i know the wrist break didnt help painwise, but i have been in continual flare since December! so far so good. :P
I'll update tomorrow but if this is the start of the Humira working...I will be ecstatic.

That's wonderful news Poppy, I'm so pleased for you. Um, however, does the hospital know you have an ear infecton and are on antibiotics? They usually make you stop treatment till you are better. The lectures I've had from the hospital on this subject!

    Good luck anyway. Best wishes,

    Susan

    Hi Marion and Susan,
Thanks for your kind words and advice, Marion if you would like to pm me re any 'Humira starting out' questions feel free! From one newbie to another it does help to hear other peoples stories, I'd have been lost without DD's help on that score
Susan, thankyou for the advice re hospital knowing about ear infection, I did phone and speak to my rheumatology dept who advised me to miss the methotrexate this week, but as I'd already taken the Humira last week I've to see how I am once anti biotics are finished with regard to next weeks Humira.
Another day of getting up and not having to swallow painkillers  I'm tentatively grinning like a Cheshire cat  got everything crossed that this is working.
Hope everyone is as painfree as possible Xxx

    Hi Julie, Toni and Cris,
I'm over the moon too! I can't describe it properly to my friends, one just popped a birthday card in for my middle son (he's 15 today) and I was excitedly telling her over tea that I'm not in any pain and look I can move around and pick things up easily etc, but she just looked at me like I was mad  nevermind, hubby says its my own fault for hiding my difficulties so well
Cris, the scan went well, fabulous hospital more like a hotel, didn't want to leave  the glitter needs updating although ive an MRI on 23rd so better wait till that's done before I invite my niece over to do another piece of artwork
Thankyou guys, I'm so happy and bit tearful :?: probably just a bit overcome Xxxx love to you all

Poppy I think it is working. This sounds like me after 1 injection then it got better and better after each following injection. I have described it like being a flower which has been parched and then given a drink. You perk up. The elbow pain you describe sounds like me. I didn't notice it had gone as so much else was improving and then one day I thought 'blimey my elbows haven't hurt for a while'!
I am off MTX too due to another chest infection(it is worse this time) and waiting to hear if I need another x-ray. I am not yet on anti biotics but think I had better get some.
Glad you are feeling better! Humira seems to work in Hillingdon. We must get a good batch!

Poppy where did you have your scan? I was wondering if it was at Mount Vernon in the cancer centre?

    Hi Poppy,
That is great news and an excellent start. I can understand that you are still cautious and sort of still in disbelieve. I have everything crossed for you.
Thank you for the update as it does really help to know that meds work and it gives everyone a boost when we see a successes story.
    Lots of hugs,

    Hi Elizabeth,
Yes the scan was at Mount Vernon, it's such a lovely hospital. I'm back there this morning 9.30am for physio hand therapy, think I may as well keep a camp bed at the hospital  but looking forward to my hot wax treatment  bliss Xxx hope you're chest infection is clearing :?: hugs xxx

Thanks Ironic, I'm a happy girl at the minute, for once taking the meds is not a chore, not when you get positive results  sending hugs your way Xxx

    Morning poppy

Hot wax treatment is lovely but a funny feeling isnt it,?
Do they hav you peeling it off and rolling it in a ball and squeezing it.
It is years and years ago that i went, but i remember it well.

I can imagine your excitement to your friend as you started showing her things you can do again  I can also imagine your friends too

Have a lovely day, but don't do too much.......(oh heck , if you feel like it why not?...I would if I could  )

It is a lovely hospital and also has a lovely coffee shop but a bit expensive.I had my THR at Hillingdon but was transferred to Mount Vernon half way through. Shame the physio is upstairs though!
