Hi All
I have family staying and my brother who works up in Scotland was doing his usual which is:-
Saying he cannot understand why i dont swim every day at leisure centre round corner he is positive (though he has no idea) that the pool has hoists and ramps to get in and out of pool...Strangely enough he does not see a problem with me getting in and out of a conventional pool with steep ladder type steps....He doesnt get either why as its cold and lots of people can stare at you in your glory, i dont like it for that reason either?
Secondly he thinks and his words "if you walked into our office most people would say you would 100% qualify for DLA, mobility car etc......He fills in forms for people as part of his job which is all well meant but I tried and tried till i was blue in the face to state that it was hard enough gettting ESA, going through medical etc and DLA is not awrded any easier....Would he have it...No.....I do think there are people who are worse off than me really...I can still walk short amounts, do small housework tasks.....
I know he meant well but it seems his insistent advice and a perhaps one sided view of it was rather badly placed.........

Hi Elaine
I am not sure what ESA is, but I was convinced yesterday on here to go for the DLA along with my daughters nagging too!
I would say that if you are already getting a benefit because of your illness would it not be easier to claim for DLA?
I dont know a thing about the benefits system, but surely its worth a try?0 -
Well Elaine, it has to be your decision. If you don't think you are bad enough to qualify for DLA then don't go for it. It can be upsetting to be turned down, as if you are pulling a fast one. That can be depressing.
As for swimming, I also find the steps impossible and changing in and out of clothes takes forever. When I went to hydrotherapy we helped each other as we were all suffering but we took ages. It was funny in the dressing room trying to bend our joints enough to get stuff back on to badly dried legs and then hobble out with untied laces!
I have given up trying to explain to people what I can and can't do......

Um well they make it hard for any genuine person (look at the likes of Jenzie) to claim ESA, DLA never mind people who do need it so i dont fancy all the poking, prodding and spanish interrogation........
If you dont know a thing about benefits system then I can only say its a shock to the system now with them cutting back on everything and everyone.....Its hardly beneficial.....

Hi Elizabeth
Well i guess when i see others who have to use wheelchairs and have to have two crutches, etc to get about i think well I am not as bad as them.....
I also know how much last year stressed me out with ESA......Its just designed to make you feel like a fake even if you aint...
Our hydro pool has big plastic steps with sides on to get in and out or a hoist or stretcher if youre worse off...Everyone has something up with them there so we are fine and laugh with each other....I always for some reason end up chattering to the fellas not the women.....ha....

Thankfully we had a slope at our hydro pool. I did not want to try the steps (not ladder) that led into the pool.
One thing at the family party I just attended was steps leading up. I have a couple of relatives who use sticks and an elderly Aunt. I'm really not sure how they got up those steps!

Hi Elaine,
Yes you were stressed with the ESA last year and to be honest it does seem to be a dig deep struggle to get anything these days.
Your brother did not see you go through this and as you say it will have been said with best intentions on his part. I can well understand that being constantly told oh you will get this can shall we say grate.
You look after yourself Elaine and if and when you decide to apply for anything we will support you either way.
I hope your sister is feeling a little better.

Hi I
Well its the way he puts it, he kinda challenges everything i say such as there must be facilities at local leisure centre for disbaled, you would qualify, i can bet you, etc....And it gets really stressful trying to argue the point when dont want an arguement...All this from person who said when i dieted that he didnt think i woulds stick to it, that was before o started, good luck wishes huh?
It was a stress last year and jobcentre seem to think im employable even brother said too couldnt i change toners in photocopiers in offices whilst on a seat????
My sister is still on steroids, anti sickness and not doing too much but getting gradually, snails pace better....Cant see her working for months yet mind u...

And how would you travel to the photo copier shop? Is it very near to your house? If driving ,would you have a parking space nearby?Would you be allowed home if fatigue was bad? Would they accept you might need days off for many hospital appointments not to mention off days? It is not an easy option for many on AC.
How is your brother regarding your sister's illness? Sorry I'm asking lots of questions and it is late in the day....

Hi Val
Well yeah i know i was on about when i used to be a receptionist for a frim of IFA's - i couldnt do that job again or the job i had in police station working for witness care unit, lugging about heavy files and gooing up and down six flights of stairs a day...
Im only on co-prox medication wise, i dont take anti inflammatories, they dont agree with me!!
Plus i dont know what job i could do now if im honest.
