Just one of those days

I have started to come out of two month flare; I have been on 10mg of mtx since October which has been a struggle to cope with at times.
Yesterday afternoon I came home from work to find a letter from my Rheumy appointment and they want to increase my mtx in stages to 20mg!!
I must say this has come as a shock and to honest last night was a head in my hands night. There is a clause that if I cannot tolerate the mtx increase a lower dose in combination with Sulfa could be tried. There was a mention of going down the injection route at a later stage. Well that doesn’t sound as bad when you say it but at the moment it is still a lot to get my head round.
I really didn’t think that it would come to this so quickly. Logic says it’s for the best, but not today, today is well...
Tonight I take my first increase of 12.5 mtx.
I am having my bloods taken on Friday so please cross everything for me as I need some better results before my next appointment in May.
Sorry to whinge but sometimes as you know things just hit home. What I think I am saying as I need a hug, then tomorrow I will use them to get my act together. And I will pick myself up as we all have to but as I said not today.
Hugs to those who need them,
Lv, Ix

    Hi I,
I get an awful metallic taste too with meth! I thought it was just me!! Its reassuring to know I'm not alone, it got worse when I went up to 20mg. None of this is nice medication to take is it? If you told me 2 years ago that I'd be in constant pain, exhausted, have to give up my childminding business, take methotrexate, Sulfasalazine, celebrex, tramadol and then start injecting myself with Humira I wouldn't have believed it or wanted to
But Ironic, I'm day three of NO pain in the morning , ive not had to get up plunge my hands into hot water to get going, and down the painkillers, the drugs are starting to work, sure I know this could be a blip and im not unrealistic about arfur rearing his ugly head again  but for now? I'm the best I've been in 18 months.
Hang in there it can and does get better with these meds, for every bad story you hear there is a good one, it's just we don't always hear the good ones :P thinking of you, I hope things improve for you xxx

    Morning I

Hope you are feeling a little better today, yesterday must have been a bit of a blow, no one likes to increase or add more meds.
I hope the increase in mtx is good to you and helps bring arthur under control. I have my fingers crossed that your bloods return to (our sort of ) normal.
And in may when you go back to the rhummy peeps they are pleased with your progress.

    Take care....sendind hugs(((((())))))))))

    Hi I,

Oh flower maybe the 12.5 will do the job and they wont have to go above it?

I went up fast as well and now on 25 jabs and still no sign of improvement but they have promised me if it does they will drop it back down again.....

I would say though the jabs are so much better and well I am going to say that. if you get any sickness from the tablets as well as getting some anti-emetics think about the jabs cus I no longer have the throwing up half the week which is so much better.

Do still feel a bit sick but one thing to feel it and no as bad as doing it eh?

I really hope you wont need to go above 12.5 and if you do it will soon be reduced again flower. leaving you tea and a (((((((((( ))))))))))) and so many hopes. Cris xx

I, i hope you are feeling better i am with cris I also have the injections (25mg) and have been on them for over a year was on 20mg injections before that as the tablets weren't working and i couldn't tolorate a higher dose of tabs. The injections are fine no metallic taste ( i did get that with the tablets and even resorted to having brown sauce with my dinner YUK, just to taste something i wouldn't touch it with a bargepole now), no sickness, no hairloss much better.
So if the tablets are a problem ask about trying the injections they are not so bad once you get past doing the first one

Have another ((((hug)))) and Maddie is sending another sloppy kiss

Thank you so so much for your replies. I am really overwhelmed by your kindness.
I am feeling more positive today not least because of all your encouragement and much appreciated hugs and slurps. My friend came round and whisked me off for lunch and a natter this afternoon so that helped.
I have had one of those stupid sickly headaches today which I am putting down to the weather, so I have had a snooze after tea and will have an early night tonight.
As you say there are not set rules with Arthur and I may not need the full increase, my appointment with the rheumy nurse is in 5 weeks time fingers crossed things might have improved by then if not then 15mg could be the magic number who knows.
I might give the brown source a go, as the metallic taste is awful.
I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner but we are having power cuts so I had better get this posted before the lights go out again. Alarms have been going off all evening.
With love from a very grateful,
    I xxxx

Yes I am feeling a lot better today, I am sure it was all the lovely hugs that worked their magic.
I have had a letter today for my appointment in May for an Ultra sound on my hand so with luck I will get my fingers back working before long.
Thank you all for your support, it has helped me so much.
    Hugs,
    Ix

    Hi Lynn,
I did alright with the extra tablet, thanks for thinking of me. I have a slight ear infection (s@ds law that these things happen so near to bank holidays) so I might delay taking the next lot for a day or two.
I am a bit upset not cos I have the ear infection but if I do delay taking the meds until Thursday my chocolate chucky eggs will taste like gunmetal... now that is sad.:lol::lol:

How is your cold? I hope you manage to get out for your birthday.
    Love from,
    Ix
