Hi,
I got a referral from the physio to go to our gym.....I went last Wed and was there 2 hrs.....{about 1 hr was spent on machines} I think it was very difficult for a first day......I was aching.....and had to go out that night.
I've changed my day to Friday so we'll see what that brings and how i feel. Thers nothing on on a Fri that cant be cancelled.
10 mins on a bike, 10times on a machine....sit with legs on it and then push back and slowly let it come forward again, similar maching only you push with your feet and push a board...10 times, back on to a bike but not a recumbant one {I had that to start with because of my back] this one you hold handlebars and they move as well so you are working your arms as well as your legs that was for 10 mins, then 10 mins on a treadmill {I can only walk for 15 mins} then warm down exercises...
Sorry if i've said this before but i've lost track where i am on the site with not being able to get on.....I'll have to catch up tomorrow....its now almost 11.30pm night all
Love hileena

It is a wonder you are not still in bed recovering a week later.

I hope they are a little more gentle with you this week,
    Good luck for friday
    Will be thinking about you.

    Morning Julie....I GOT IN!!!!!!
At a guess it was only about 1 hr actual exercise the rest was spent filling in forms and being shown around etc but still felt a lot  The fact that I have a very bad cold and have had for a while and have just been told I'm anaemic as well doesnt help......havent the energy to even think about it.

Congratulations, it's not easy to get out and do something like that. I decided long ago that I would not do any 'exercise', especially in the gym, I hate the bloomin things.

I will go out and do things I enjoy and put more effort into them because I enjoy them. Simples!

    Hi,
I dont know that I particularly like it but there isnt much I can do in the line of exercise.....I can only walk for 15 mins....I agree with you....if its something you enjoy you stick to it more than a regime like this. I used to enjoy walking with friends....I'm hopeful that this will help a bit and get my mobility back to where it was before this THR......stopping for and extra coffee when walking but that was all LOL LOL  It was a good excuse as well to drink coffee

    Hi Hileena

I wish you well for tomorrow. No worries if you are not up to posting that day but do let us know how you got on when you are able to do so.

I think you are doing great. Is this workout specially designed for you or does everyone there do the same? Is someone there to check on what you are doing or not? Sorry for the questions but it interests me.

    Love

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

    HIleena

l think you are doing really well.

I am glad that you have support though and guidance as you wouldn't want to do a programme like THAT without it incase you did harm!

l am sure you wont overdo it and l really would like to know how it goes and what benefits you get

    Hi
    Thanks Elna and Toni,
The workout is supposed to be designed for me....people with heart trouble would do something else or other chronic pain will do something else again.
I dont mind the questions......in theory there will be someone there between 12 and 2 Mon Wed and Fri {thats the healthy life hours} although i can use it outside those hours...Going at noon today and dont know who will be there....whether it will be the same lad or someone different

    Hi Hileena
Sorry I am only just seeing this, I do hope the gym went well, you will be very sore apart from the arthur, your muscles will be complaining, has long as you are supervised you shouldnt over do things.
But be careful, and really good luck with it all.

    Good on ya I say!

I'm a firm believer in the 'use it or lose it' way of thinking. Keep everything moving before it gets a chance to seize up I say. Cardio & some light full range of motion exercises can't be beaten.

Hi, Well got the the gym yesterday....actually it didnt seem as long...possibly because I knew which machines were next....but I'm just as sore as i was last week
It is a mixture of exercises......2 different bicycles.....one moves your arms as well as your leg, the tread mill.....a back machine....sit and bend forward as far as you can the slowly push back and release it slowly....the one that gets me is sitting and lifting my legs and putting them on a metal thing at the bottom and pushing that.....I suppose the fact that I've got arthur in my left ankle and a THR doesnt help LOL But still living

I've had 2 referrals to the gym and the first one was really great. I had a lot of aches from my muscles, but slowly over the weeks my muscles became stronger and I was increasing all the exercises without realising it, until the trainer pointed it out! I carried on going even after the referral finished by joining the gym and went twice a week. The trainer who ran the medical sessions let us go on his class days and was happy to help out with any problems.
After going back to work, I found fitting it all in too difficult.

When my neck became bad, I was referred back to the gym, but because my problem was in my neck they wouldn't allow me to do much so not so good.

I'm sure you do,but do make sure that you tell the trainer of any pain or changes in your condition. They can alter the exercises to suit you or give you something else. WEll done for going, I know how difficult I found the first few sessions, but soon got used to it. I do hope you find some good from it.
    Love Sue

    Hi Sue,
I changed my gym day from Wed to Friday....the first time was a Wed and I was going out....I would have been happy to stay in and soak so I thought well Fri ...theres not much on...... certainly that cant be cancelled.Today I'm feeling it .....I will tell them Sue.....it was a different girl this time and I told her about aches and pains from the last time and she seems to think they are all muscular.....so I'll keep it up and hopefully it will get easier

Hi, Yes, you do get muscle pain and stiffness as they haven't been used for a while. You did the right thing in telling them, I was told be my trainer that if something felt really wrong in the gym, to stop and tell them.
I hope you will feel the benefit of all the work and it is hard work! Also you're doing something positive for yourself and I don't know about you, but it made me feel better about myself! Don't do too much though  . Love Suexx

    Hi Sue
Thanks for the encouragement......part of the soreness is I havent been having the acupuncture for a while....due to re start it in May sometime.
I'll keep it up....except for the week I'm over in Belfast....Tues to Fri after Easter...going to see my mam....she's 88 now....she used to come to us a couple of times a year but has really slowed down now
I wont do too much.....it was suggested that there was a Healthy Life class on a Monday as well as they gym but I think that would be too much at the minute.....might go to the class further down the line
