Does anyone else suffer from this? the scalp pins and needles often leave me with a vry sensitive and sore to touch scalp.
I have RA but my rheumy nevedr takes much notice of this symptom. the hands and feet starts on its own sometimes or after a minute or two if I lean on one hand or type for more than a few minutes (for my hands).
It was under control with Amitriptelene 20mg per day but now its creeping back with a vengeance. My GP said I can go up to 25mg Amitryptelene but my worry is that Ive only had relief from the Ami for a short time a few months. Somedays I cant brush my hair as its too painful (i look like a wild haired sindy doll (without the figure ))
Anyone else have these problems or any ideas for a remedy??
MAny thanks

Hi Thersa, I have pins needles and numbness in my hands but not my scalp, this must be a very strange sensation, My pins and needles is due to prolapsed discs in my neck causing nerve compression. I'm sure if anyone else has this problem they will post you a message,

Hi Theresa
I have experienced pins and needles in hands, feet and scalp and it is very unpleasant isn't it. The first time I had hand pins and needles was when my wrists very very inflamed and this disappeared when wrists improved. But the other times were hands, arms, feet and scalp all at once, long lasting and really very scary - particularly the scalp sensation. I thought it was my neck but MRI was fine and, as far as I can ascertain, it was a med side effect (one of many of that particular medication) and, since stopping the med it has gone away. I didn't get the soreness you describe though. I wonder if it is inflammation in your scalp Theresa. I know that when my RA has been misbehaving badly, my skin can be very painful to touch and feels as I have been burned. I do think you need to flag this up to the rheumy again when you see him though because it's obviously causing you a lot of discomfort.
Sorry can't be more help but hopefully someone will be along with more thoughts soon.

Theresa
I get the problem in my hands and scalp normally due to the nerves being compressed due to the inflamation I have Ra but also OA in my neck my Gp prescribed Gabapentin to help block the nerve pain which seems to help although like tilly i get sore skin from the RA I find it really hurts if someone else washes my hair i guess i can't press hard enough for it to be so bad.
You should explain it again to the rheumy and see if they can help. it might be worth trying the increase in amitryp just to see if it helps.
