Hi all,

Just wanted to let you all know that finally I have my pre-assessment on this coming wednesday, a T.H.R. group on the 28th, and all going well the op on the 5th May.

I don't know whether to be excited or stressed. At least I have nearly lost half a stone now, so hopefully by next week I should hit the full half stone.

    Hi Karen

You are bound to have mixed emotions about it, that is not at all unusual. Good for you for losing weight, keep on with and get to the full half stone - that is an incentive if ever there was one. So many have had THRs on here, they will reply to anything you wish to know either before the op, what to take into hospital, post op, anything. There is quite a large Hip Club on the forum.

At least you have time to arrange things should you need to do so but not too much time to dwell on it all.

All will be well and a new start for you, post op.

    Luv

Good luck Karen. i have had a THR and it was fine. And it was so lovely to be able to move without that knife in side feeling. If you have any questions please ask as I was terrified until I got some info from people who had been through the operation themselves.

Hi Karen if you are like me you will be full of mixed emotions, from apprehension about the op to excitement and relief to move without pain.
I'm due to have an ankle replacement or fusion on the 28th April the day of your THP group.I will be in your pocket for the 5th May if there's room for my plaster cast!
    All the best

Hi Constable, just think in 3 weeks you will focusing on your recovery and rehab!!! Hopefully the weather will be spring like and you can enjoy your recovery. Take a peek at Mike's prep for hospital thread at the top of LWA forum and get as organised as possible - that will keep you occupied and your mind off the op. The first couple of weeks post op are the hardest - but you will be free of the bone-grinding pain .... and soon be healing and getting impatient with the hip restrictions and probably overdoing it too.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Speedy,

It sounds like you know me. And yes, I have checked out that thread, very helpful thanks.

I know I will be wanting to be up and doing things, but I know I must resist. Let everyone else do the work for me.

    Hi Karen
I really do wish you well with your THR, like Tones has said he as never looked back...I have been told I need two THR...but they are still trying to make there minds up if most of my pain is from the back....I sometimes wish it was more straightforward...then I could get it over with.
You will be up and about before you know it,I think this waiting is the worst.
    Good Luck

    Hi Karen

I had my THR 1 Year ago yesterday, I was terrified as I had never had a operation before, but there is nothing to be worried about and it gets rid of that daily constant pain so for that alone its well worth having it done.
It wont be long now and you will be on the road to recovery and pain free. Good Luck with the op.x

    Hi Karen
How exciting! I can honestly say that, as it is exciting, planning a much easier, less painful future! I was nervous about the op before my THR but although it hasn`t been straight forward for me (due to my own predisposing circumstances) I would recommend this op to anyone who needs it.
I have lots of tip/advice if you need or want it, please ask.
    Good luck xx

Hi, Good luck, I'm sure its only natural to have mixed feelings about the op, especially when you have a date and everything is real! I hope all goes well and you feel loads better after the op., but all surgery takes time to heal and it might be a while before you are feeling the true benefit! Love Sue
