Car insurance for 16 year olds?

Hi,
I've just recently passed my test and have been looking at buying a car, however when I've phoned around for a decent price on insurance most have said that they don't insure 16 year old drivers.
Which is really frustrating, why let me pass when I'm 16 and not allow me to actually drive.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has been able to get insured at 16 or insurance for their children, and if you have what company was it with?
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess
I was not aware that you could learn to drive at 16 never mind pass a test, so well done to you .
Do you qualify for a mobility car? If so then they will do all the insurance for you I think.
Sorry I can not help much , but I wish you luck

You will not get any car insurance until you are 17, because your license is not valid until you are.
Have patience! Nothing to stop you doing some research and getting quotes. Running the car is the major cost these days. Go to www.honestjohn.co.uk, a webpage from the motoring press, very useful.
I seem to remember driving a three wheeler until I could afford a car and an extra wheel, then got a new girlfriend and went back to bikes :-))0 -
They let you pass your test at 16?! In the UK?! :eek:0

it's POSITIVE discrimination
People witha disability can pass their test early l am sure.
BUT l would have thought you could get insurance?????
CONGRATULATIONS!
Have Pmd you

Wow! :P Good for you! In that case I'd contact the DLA or even the DVLA to ask for their help - they should be able to guide you!0 -
Hi, Yes my daughter passed her test at 16 as she was on DLA and it was seen as a way she could gain her independence. It made her very happy indeed as it brought a new dimension to her life which, due to her disability, she had not had before. Regarding her insurance, she had a motability car so that was all taken care off. I hope you manage to get insurance so that you can benefit from your new found independence - good luck.0

Hi Jelly bean,
Welldone flower Good on you!
I think Holly ( welcome to the forums Holly x) has the right idea, ask mobility or have a mobility car. Not as cool but actually might really be the answer. Cris x0 -
Thanks for all the replies and the help. I've decided to get a mobility car and just ordered it today
I'm super excited!
Thanks
