I have only recently had to start using wheelchairs and walking aids so didnt really have a clue about all things disabled. In fact i dont really see myself as disabled but i guess i am really.
I asked on this forum last week for info on any places that i could go using a chair.
Thank you thank you so much for your help. I managed to find a fabulous place a few miles away that hire out mobility scooters free of charge. It is a huge park and woodland area near Brentwood. My daughter and I took my granchildren there on Friday.
I can honestly say it was the first time in 2yrs that i have enjoyed a day out. I wasnt left sitting on a seat while everyone else went off and enjoyed themselves. I JOINED IN!!! We had heaps of fun especially when i challenged the kids to race me. Daughter took very funny video of them running along side me. Wore them out too as 2 of them fell asleep on the way home

Thanks again. I love this website

    Yes marvellous.
Sadly, I cant afford one of my own yet, but one day hopefully.

Would be great to be able to pop down the local pub and stuff too. I wonder if you can be charged with drink driving in a mobility scooter??

Dotty i am so pleased you got to take part. I slow my lot down to the point we rarely go out as a family. Even swimming has obstacles. It does get you down.

Hello, I hope you have a lot more happy days out in the future  I do have some second hand experience of what a differance these aids make to people. So I'm really happy for you.
My niece is in her early forties and has a degenartive neuro disease, a rare genetic thing. Anyway, last summer she had her first electric wheelchair and it's suitable for going outside. She loves it, it means that she can go into the garden when her husband is at work and if, she rang me up one day to say that sh'd been picking the deadheads of the flowers!

    Thats wonderful Woodbon.
Yes, it had never really occurred to me just how vital these things can be to people until I have needed them myself recently.
I am still able to shuffle around indoors without one but going out anywhere means i sit in one place much of the time. Thnakfully in this area all the supermarkets have them and so do the big shopping malls at Lakeside and Bluewater. Trouble is since having to give up work i dont have the money to spend there!! I'm not a window shopper either. If i cant buy anything i dont want to wind myself up looking at stuff i cant have!
