Hi,
I just suddenly thought that it is a year ago last Feb since I had my THR and no appointment.
I'm sure you should have an appointment.
I think I went off the radar screen because just before the 2nd THR was due {less than a yr since the first one} I was sent to a back specialist......I think from then I was forgotton about....he did say that as soon as my back was sorted he could get me in in about 6 weeks for the 2nd THR but my back isnt sorted and doesnt look as if it ever will be.
So I phoned his secretary this afternoon and she said yes I should be seen
there is an appointment winging its way to me as i type if she is to be believed
The ortho was lovely but that doesnt change the fact that I'm much less mobile since the operation.....so we shall see.
Love

Hi Hileena,
What a shame you are less mobile after your op. If you dont mind my asking what was the op? Im always hoping to hear something to give me hope that my back will improve.
You shouldnt have been forgotten about but it happens. My OH was forgotten about and only got seen again when he phoned.
Hope when you get seen you hear some good news.

Hi Hileena. It is amazing that you can be forgotten , it does'nt make you feel like good if they forget you . I am sorry your back is holding you back from getting your other hip sorted , you must be in a lot of pain from your hip and back . Backs are terrible things to suffer with, my sister is hoping to get her back sorted it as been going on for 2 years and still no nearer . I hope you get your letter soon for your followup, i remember i had one at 12 months . Wishing you all the best ..........jillyx0

Hi Toni,
Yes I think I've been overlooked because of the back stuff.....back specialist was in a different hospital in a different county and although he discharged me after one visit he was the one sent me to a physio.

Oh Hileena
I do hope you get that appointment, its because of your post that got me thinking about my back, and how it could show in my hip, and yes my hip and back specialist are in two different places that dont correspond with each other.
So I do wish you well and know some of what you are going through, but I havnt had a THR yet.
Please let us know how you get on
Take care

Hi Hileena
I do hope the secretary is true to her word and you get your appointment in the next couple of days......(2nd class no doubt)
I am sorry though that you were waiting for your back to be sorted and after a year you still have a problem.
Watch this....you will have your 2nd hip done and hey presto your back will be sorted......fingers crossed
take care

Hi Seamonkey,
It was a hip replacement I had a year ago last Feb.....I had/have arthritis ion hips and lower back among others
I was due to have the 2nd one replaced last Oct and a few weeks before surgery they sent me for another MRI and then decided it was referred pain from my back.....I think thats when I slipped out of sight because I was sent to a back specialist at a different hospital and havent seen or heard for the orthopaedic surgeon since that....At the moment I'm having acupuncture for my back

Hi Jilly,
I dont think I want the other hip done....OK this one was sore but I was pretty mobile pre op now I use a scooter if I have to walk any more than about 15 mins or so.
I'm looking forward to getting acupuncture again...I know its temporary but at leasst it eased the pain in my back....I've got to ring the hospital next month to arrange another session0 -
Hi,
Thanks Barbara......and by the way anyone reading this thats thinking of a THR please dont be put off.....on the whole most people have been really helped by it.

Hi Julie,
The orthopaedic surgeon said he would fit me in for the 2nd hip operation after my back was sorted but it doesnt look as if it is going to be sorted.
Back specialist said nothing he could do except operate and he didnt advise that, discharged me to a physio who saw me 3 times and said this isnt doing any good and sent me for acupuncture....thats helping but it is temporary.
It will be very interesting to see what the orthopaedic surgeon has to say about the one he operated on....especially when I tell him I'm much less mobile than before the op
So just waiting for the letter now

Hi Hileena, I wondered what was happening with your hip.
Hope you get your ortho appointment through and soon.
Even if your back is referring pain to your hip - if you have got hip damage - then that IS something that can be fixed ...
Keep us posted and hopefully I'll not miss your update.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Speedy,
Zilch happening
Hope the appt comes through soon as well. Although I think you know from the beginning my hip hasnt been right so I have my doubts about getting the other one done......
The thought of that recovery period....remember getting into baths etc and the rest of it......to discover that I might be worse again.
Oh well we'll see.....goodness knows how long it will be before i see him

Hi Lynn
I did wonder about it being a delaying tactic with all these cuts etc
but I think it is genuine.....just because I was sent to a hospital in a different county about my back.....the hip was forgotten about
We'll see what happens and how long it takes the appt to come....it wont be quick with all these bank holidays

I got a letter this morning with my 12 month THR appointment on it
It didnt take as long to come as I thought it might.
The date is the 17th June....I suppose thats not bad...considering I wouldnt have had one if I hadnt chased it up
