Hi,
This is a rant I'm afraid and I know what you'll all say after you've read this.
My GP who has been supportive to me for months has suddenly turned horrible and I now think I'll need to change drs.
He put me on his favourite drug Meloxicam but I didn't like it (for various reasons) so came off it-boy was he miffed with me! I've been twice since my rhuemy appt. First time about my shoulders and he wouldn't order xrays cos 'it'll only show up what you know already'. He also told me that I have to just get on with it.
Went yesterday to ask if he'd received my report from rhuemy and his reply was 'nope, I don't get these results'. I called the hospital to find out about letter and they sent it to surgery 2wks ago. Called surgery to be told there is a 7 page report from hospital in my notes. Have now arranged another appt. next week with another dr.
I told him my hips were bad and again he refused to order xrays because of radiation poisoning!!!! He would only get xrays done if he felt I needed a new hip but as I'm only 41, he said my new hip would be 'bu****ed in 2yrs and I'd be left in a wheelchair'. I asked about hydrotherapy and he said he didn't know anywhere that did that and just to go private.
Lastly, I asked about increasing joint pain and that the Etodolac wasn't doing much anymore and he said well you keep getting side-effects to everything else so basically-tough! To say I'm annoyed is an understatement. He also said come back in 10yrs or so and maybe you'll get some surgery. My wee boy was with me, I should have said to him to give him a good kick in the shins
Rant over

    Hi Magenta

Wow, your sympathetic gp has changed his attitide, hasn't he? Very noticeably too. Sounds like he got annoyed/miffed that you did not get on with his "fav" med. Unless something has happened in his personal life otherwise I am at a loss as to why he is no longer interested in your problems. Perhaps other patients of his have noticed a change in him too.

Thank goodness you have an appointment with another gp coming up soon.

    Luv

Well, who wee'd on his strawberries and who surgically removed his bedside manner? Right, phone call to the practice manager to lodge a complaint about his attitude toward you and his lack of understanding and neglilgence at not having read the report from your Rheummy. All specialists send reports to GP's and most will send a copy to the patient as well. That's the first thing for Tuesday morning. They have an obligation to follow up any complaints / problems.

Oh Matron is not amused, believe me I have had to bring Drs back to the real world on more than one occasion, not only when I was nursing, but also GP's that have the charm of a pit viper.

You can also report your problems to the Primary Care Trust which your surgery comes under, you can Google for the results. They always follow up complaints.

Perhaps he was getting lots of freebies from the reps who where selling the drug that you were on.

His mood, is his problem and should not transfer to any patient that he sees. I didn't give patients the third degree, if I was miffed about something. Shame on him for his attitude and I hope his Easter Eggs melt in their boxes.

I hope your next visit to the Drs is successful, I would not mention any complaints etc, as they would not be able to comment. Take care and have a good Easter week end. XX bubbles

As i see it You have 2 choices really:
    1. Demand to see a new doc, changing docs can be relatively simple, if you're in a large practice just ask to see a different GP or if you could register with a different practice. I've done this and apart from being upset at how badly the 1st practice treated me (practice was eventually sued by someone else & manager ran off with all the money ...so I wasn't the only one who had a problem with them!). , the whole thing was relatively easy.

    2. Go back to your GP and tell them u were upset by the last appointment. Chances are they didn't realise they were being a tw*t and taking their bad day out on you , many drs ( for a caring profession sometimes they aren't the most insightful bunch) would be mortified to realise they'd upset you and would go out of there way to make it up to you. Not an excuse for poor behaviour but might help if you were previously happy with them. If that doesn't help or you are not satisfied with the outcome following that complain to the practice manager - write out your issues calmly and rationally so that emotion doesn't derail you

I've got rid of a GP who was having a bad day and a consultant that was less than helpful & never kept his appointments, now have fab GP & rheaumy - challenging drs is never fun but at the end of the day you need to look out for no. 1 so get it sorted and move on it will be for the best
    Good luck

    Hi Magenta
Im sorry you are being treated like this, some GPs refused to listen to there patient...I cant understand why not...mine was just the same...the only difference he wasn't nice to start with.
I changed my GP months ago, and what a difference, I never try and tell him his job, but he does listen to me.
I do hope your new appointment goes well for you.
    Good Luck

Eileen , I cant believe what that GP is doing to you , how dare he treat you like that , The trouble is to many GP dont know what is going on with arther , the pain we have to suffer and what happens to people with arther . I have found a couple of my GPs at my surgery with the same problems , they need more training.
Dont give him the chance to carrry on doing this to you , find another GP. I think he is just showing you he is in charge . I had the same thing happen to me when my old doctor retired . Some GP i had never seen did my repeat meds , she rang and said she did'nt like me on the meds he had given me for 2 years she wanted me to take Tramadol which i had tried years back they did not work for me . I was fuming, I went in to see the new gp i had been seeing and told her about it . She arranged for me to go to the pain clinic to see what they said , they agreed that it was the right one for me . I got it back.
The trouble is they have a pecking order in the practises , so no one wants to say to much, if he is high up the pecking order.
I hope you sort the so and so out . You have enough to put up with . Keep strong ...........jillyxx

    Hi Eileen,

Oh flower its never easy to have a good doctor become not so good... maybe he was having a bad day? Not excusing him just trying to explain it ....

the xray thing I have the same problem as I have had so many they don't like to do more..... The rumo does send me for a few here and there but.... not as many as I would like cus I would juts like to know what is going on and which is doing what joint... though the last 2 showed they are under attack from both the pa and the oa.

Good plan to see someone else, sometimes a fresh perspective helps flower.

I so hope next time you see the nice one he is nice once more and leaving you a ((((( ))))) and a hope your okish there? have a good Easter Flower. Love Cris xx

Thanks Elna, Bubbles, Chrissie, Barbara, Jilly and Cris,

    You're all lovely
I will see what other dr says about it all, can't do any harm.
Bubbles, I've never had any reports sent to me. I've seen other people on here posting about their letters they've got back but rhuemys don't seem to do that here. I'm going to ask for a copy.
Jilly and Cris, how are you? Hope you aren't in too much pain.

Hope you all have a lovely Easter,

    Magenta xxxxxx
