Arthritis in Feet with shooting pain up my leg

Hey.
Can anyone help me?
I have arthritis in both feet in many different places including my subtalar joints.
Over the winter, my pain was so bad even tramodal was not strong enough. I also got shooting pains up my left leg but not my right. Night time was a nightmare with being up for about 6 hours at a time before I managed to get back to sleep.
Will I find next winter, like that?
Now the weather has got better and it is warmer, my pain has descreased and the tramodal is taking away the whole pain,
Does anyone know why this happens?
Im just about to have fusion surgery on my left but am thinking about maybe not having it on my right as well.
Has anyone had a ankle/foot orthotic for subtalar arthritis? I also really do not want another operation after my left, would rather have an orthotic if that sorts the pain out.
Im normally very active with going sailing, windsurfing and climbing. At the moment I am unable to do any of it?
Thanks. Ruth.

Hi Ruth,
Welcome to the forum and glad you found it but not glad you have the problem there.
Like you I get that horrible pain in the feet every so often, they tell me its the small bones and they can;t really do anything for it.
I don't know as its the same mine suddenly just so hurt across the instep and normally its for a few days and than its gone till the next time.
With your surgery flower sometimes even a bit of improvement helps. Its hard to decide and I know there are some here who have had this one and hopefully they will see your post and tell you about it. I have a plated ankle but that's all. it was a very bad break and it took a bit of time to get over it but the fusion one I haven't had.
Ruth its all so hard sometimes to cope with this bone shift but it does get easier and leaving you a welcome to the forum draft and a hope. You hang in there and nice to meet yo. Cris x0 -
Hi ruth
welcome to the forums form me too
I have only a bit of experience with ankles and only in the inflamatory way which luckily subsides on it's own - to reappear when it feels like it - not seeming relevant to the weather. I do feel for you though l know how awful pain is when you can't get it under control with anything
There are folk on here who have had fusions so l hope they will be along to give advice soon.
In the meantime l do understand that you would prefer to try non-surgical methods first for the other ankle...what advice has the surgeon given to you?
You take care and l am glad you found us.
Love
