Yuk yuk yuk! I have mice and would welcome advice.
Picture me sitting on the loo (not pretty I know!) and I heard a scrabbling noise, saw a dark thing move out of the corner of my eye toward me and then FELT IT rubbing along my BARE FOOT in my fitflop!
I tell you, my lupus arthritic body has not been so agile in a long time as I jumped up and ran through my bedroom, through the hall and into the living room to be rescued by my boyfriend (who, incidently, told me not to be such a drama queen!).
Thankfully I have 2 loos so avoid that one however, whilst washing my hands in the 2nd one just now, I noticed something in the overflow hole thing which I am hoping is not a nest! Waiting for boyfriend to get home before prodding it.
Also, went to pick up straw bag to go to supermarket from behind kitchen door and noticed a hole in it and some mice droppings. Have read on internet that mice like behind fridges so that makes sense as next to kitchen door.
I am freaking out. Just about to scrub the flat from top to bottom and send boyfriend this evening to B&Q for wire wool and traps. Need to be careful as have a puppy. Think may call council or rentokil too as I live in a 1st floor flat so will need to speak with neighbours I guess.
Would be grateful for any advice. Please note that I am not interested in just humane traps. I have SLE (a form of lupus) and that as well as the drugs to supress my immune system to zero means my health cannot afford to save a mouse I am afraid.
Yuk yuk yuk.

Hi hun..
Sorry, can't really advise much, just hope that you get things sorted soon.
If you are in a council property get straight onto them, make site you tell them how you have a serious auto immune disease. They should be pretty good at coming out to sort things for you mi dear.
Too drowsy & hurty to type more, best of luck though.

Eek ! We live in a council flat in Brighton on the edge of the south downs and tend to be mouse afflicted every 2 or 3 years ; yuk . Council exterminators here charge about £45 to get rid ( one off payment ) and although a lot of money , it's worth it for the peace of mind . We also have a dog but the "removal man " was very careful where he put stuff down and none of it could be reached by Betsy dog . Horrible I know , but you must get it sorted for your own health and well being . Wish you lots of luck , we really understand too well what you're going through . Jillyb0

Hello carola, ohh them pesky mice can get in through just the tiniest hole, I used to have them at last place I lived, the council came out every year to put down bait, it is in a box that that is all but sealed bar the small hole the use to enter, I also had a dog so it was put under a piece of furniture where she could not get at it.
Things may have changed, but I was 'done' with no charge because I am getting DLA, this may also apply to other benefits - worth a call to them to find out, and they are very quick to respond.
Hope you are mouse free soon.

Thanks Folks for your replies.
I don't live in a council flat so I will likely be paying for any micebuster dude.
I own my flat and it is a newbuild! .... well, 6 or 7 years old.
My thinking is to get rid of any mice in my flat already, plug all holes and then move to the other side of the world.
I have tried looking at the overflow sink hole thing again and don't think it is a nest but not risking poking it until boyfriend comes home. Meantime, thinking it is probable that the mice are lving in the walls of the whole building so will need to speak with neighbours as once rid don't want to be reinfested.
How mortifying if no other neighbours are having problems. One has a cat - may try to borrow it!
Thanks again.0 -
For Tony ..... sorry, I meant to say in previous post that I hope you get some pain relief soon xx0

Hi Carola
I wonder if its this unusally warm weather thats bringing them out if you havent seen any before?
You do need a professional in to look at the situation and another thing is that that you can bet its not on its todd...They amaze me mice, as they effectivelly have no stomach muscles and can squeeze through any gap no matter how small....
Id talk to you neighbours see if they have heard anything as in a flat, doubt it can only be yours alone....
Good luck with getting them..

Hi carola
eeeeekkkkkk. I have no advice except wear bike clips or rubber bands
I hope your boyfriend can sort them out when he comes home. And I don't think you are a drama queen, it is amaziing how fast wwe can move when we are scared.......I had a frog in my garden the other year that lept in front of me while sitting out there.....I am too riddled with RA and a false leg but I ran (hobbled) like the wind. You should have heard my family laugh and heard my heart beating.
Hope you get rid of it.....them.....soon
Take care

Oh Marilyn! No! You poor, poor girl, a wee timorous beastie is giving you palpitations? We had a fieldmouse in our bathroom, have had mice in the kitchen before and no, it isn't nice, I agree. I suggest that letting the BF do the hairy-chested manly thing is probably a good idea to begin with, check with the neighbours too and see if they have had any sightings - perhaps you could all club together to get them dealt with. I hope thre are not too many and I hope they are soon gone. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Oh Dear been there and know that feeling yuk!!
I used to get them at my old house - well they were field mice that used to come in every spring. They started to get a bit brave and once I'd finished in the kitchen they would emerge from their hidey hole and you would hear them scampering over the lino!!! What was very funny about it though was the fact that the dog used to be in the kitchen and after the scampering you would hear him crying and see him running into the other room. It has to be one of the funniest things I've seen - a rottweiler being chased by a field mouse!!!
So I'm afraid I had to do the only thing I could - which was traps. I would leave the kitchen and put a trap down having removed the dog first, (with chocolate on it rather than cheese they really love it - and if you warm it whilst loading the trap they really have to bite hard to get it off and then would spring the trap) and a couple of minutes later I would hear it snap. I was a bit of a woosse and couldn't empty them so would throw mouse and trap in bin so had to buy a few traps each spring.
It did the trick - I hope that's of some help.

Buy 2 plug-in ultrasonic mouse repellers, plug one in the hall and one in the kitchen and within a few days all the mice should be long gone. They can't stand the ultrasonic vibrations which also spreads through the wiring. Just plug in and forget. Leave them running full-time to prevent the mice returning.
We cleared our garage of mice and big spiders by plugging 2 in there and neither the mice nor spiders have come back. Look on ebay for a twin pack. Also available from DIY stores but sometimes at a higher cost.Joseph0 -
Seriously Joseph! It gets rid of spiders. I will be getting one.

I found that the ones that clear both do get rid of spiders and other bugs. The noise (which we don't hear as it is high pitched) is an irritant which prevents them nesting. Small ones sometimes appear for a short time in sheltered areas, but are soon driven away again.Joseph0 -
i want one of these we get masive spiders and the odd field mouseval0

Hi we had them a while back , Hazel was in bed when she woke me saying I just felt something fall onto my head and run along my arm , I looked inbetween are bed as we have an oropithic bed which we pushed to gether to make it look like a double bed , and there was the mouse , I got up and turned on the light . and saw it run into the kitchen , so we settled down and just talked until we fell asleep , the next day we went to the shops got some traps which just make them stick to it , they are great, got it , but another mouse replaced it , got two plug in things and thease keep the mice and bugs away I have (3) now the house is covered.
this was the best buy

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply with advice.
Haven't exercised like I did yesterday for a long time scrubbing the whole place!!
I shall definately buy these plug things tomorrow.
Was watching Emmerdale last night and kept jumping out of my skin until I realised that the squeaky noises I kept hearing were birds in the background on the telly!
I still cannot relax in the loo!
Hope you are all having a sunshiney day x0 -
Don't panic it's only a lickle mouse it wont hurt you!, best thing is to humane trap them and then release them around 30 yards from your house, now once that's done also block up the holes where their getting in or they will continue to pester you, remember if you are going to down the poison road it will also be a threat to other animals and if the mice die in the house they will honk so humane trap is best and I wouldn't use a sticky trap as they don't kill them and they are really hard to get off, you can use a glass milk bottle for one, put it on it's side with a ramp up to the top a book will do, it might take a day or so but it should get one, put some chocolate in it as they love the stuff.0
