Why am i in so much pain , I am really at the end with this pain. As some of you lovely people may remember i started on Sulfa a couple of months ago and after 3 weeks had to come off due to a reaction. Since then my pain as gone up and up to the point i am not sleeping or walking everything hurts from my knee to my hands , feet, shoulders , elbows . I dont think i have anything else left to feel pain ,It seems to have started off a flareup my pain has'nt been this bad before . I have OA in my knee so that should'nt be affected by the inflamatory arthritis but it is much worse than it has ever been . I cant face having it replaced yet i want to get sorted with the meds and then think about it .
I asked to see the Rhumey a couple of weeks ago but because of the holidays they could'nt bring my appointment forward. My GP cant do anything for me .
I will be so glad when the 9th of May comes , I hope they give me something else to try . The trouble is it will takes weeks to kick in and it does nothing for the pain .
I am on Morphine tablets and try to keep them to as low a dose as i can , but i am going to have to up it a little just until they sort my new meds out .
I dont know how you all feel about taking morphine but i am really fightened of it as it is . My husband says not to be silly but I worry about what happens in the future if it gets any worse .
Sorry about the rant but i am so sick of pain it does help talking to you all , i know you cant do anything for me but coming on the site helps. ................jillyx

Jilly, sending you cyber hugs ((( ))), it is scary when the pain gets that bad. I don't know about you, but I find that if I am worrying then it makes the pain worse.

I am also on morphine for the pain and I keep to a low dose, but I do think for a flare up, you need to up the dose, you need to get through this patch till you see the rheumy. Add in other painkillers as able. I find amitriptyline helps me to be able to sleep better.

It is frustrating that at times you are just left to get on with it. Rest up, use all your favourite pain relief tricks, and distractions, and it will pass.

Hopefully the rheumy will either give you a depo shot or some oral pred to get you over the flare, till the new meds kick in.

    Thinking of you.

    Hi Jilly

Oh dear you poor thing, sorry I can't give you a magic pill if I could I would.

Hang in there 5 more days till you see the rhummy peeps and hopefully they will as suzygirl says give you an injection to boost you while their new meds kick in.

I think all you can do is rest rest and rest.

    Hope you feel better soon
    take care

Oh you poor thing, I am so sorry. It is so wearing and tiring, isn't it? I have a range of pain relief for all occasions and am not afraid to use it when needs must: it sounds to me as though you are in one of those times.

What do you have to take at the moment? I have 50mg tramadol (good for night use for me, they make me dopey), 100mg slow-release (not too bad, I use those very sparingly as they are quite effective, they dull enough without dulling anything else and can be topped up with cocos) and liquid morphine for all-hell-is-being-let-loose-in-me kinda pain. What about pain patches? Are they worth discussing with your GP? It sounds as though you need something NOW to get you through this, jilly, why suffer more than you already have? I don't know your fulll history or what you can take etc but I hope there is something out there that can help, I really do. DD

I am going to try and see my GP tomorrow as not seeing Cons til 18th May.

    Oh Jilly

    you poor poor girl

Take the morphine as prescribed it is only for a short time until your appt comes through (5 more days to go!) and then you will be given some help l hope to sort the pain out properly.

The GP would NOt ahve given you it if he a) thought it was forever and b) didn't think you needed it.

    Love and hugs

Oh Jilly, I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. I wish I could do something for you. Your appointment is 4 days away I think you should up on the morphine. It wont hurt taking extra for a few days or so.

I am sending you comforting hugs. And I will speak to you when I am back. Hopefully you will be feeling a bit better.

    Shall be thinking of you.

Oh Jilly, it is dreadful, I and many others can sympathise with you. Don't worry about taking the morhpine, it will do no harm, don't be afraid of it, it can be used effectively and long term if required - the benefits far outway any negatives.
You can take other pain killers with it, such as co codamol, or paracetamol, amitryp can help too. I know the rheummy appointment cannot come soon enough, but don't sell yourself short on pain relief and if necessary call the GP and ask them to help. d040.gif special hugs to you. Keep us posted and take lots of care. XX Bubbles

Good Morning fellow sufferers , Thanks again for your help ,if we didnt have this forum to ask for help and advise I dont know how we would all manage. I did need to know others thought it was ok to take a little extra painkiller , it did help thanks.
There isnt really anywhere to turn to when it gets to much is there , people dont realise how bad it can get and how alone it makes you feel. Hope you are all ok and not in to much pain ..................jillyxx

I think over time one does learn to adjust and adapt one's pain relief as required - and sometimes the 'rules' just have to be forgotten: pain dulling is an inexact science, the pain never really goes, it's more a case of removing oneself from it! The only time I am completely pain free is when under GA, that's why I love that so, so much. Even on the good days stuff still twangs and grinds, that is why life is so exhausting. Pain = tiredness = loss of coping ability = more pain = more tiredness and so the vicious cycle rolls round.

I hope you find that having a chair helps, that could well ease some of the pain in your joints and I also hope that you are able to find a better form of pain relief. Hang on in there, jilly, it will pass, all things do. DD

Oh Jilly - so sorry to hear you are having such a bad time at the moment.. Not long now until your appointment... a wheelchair is a very good idea to help you over this difficult period.

Are you using ice as well as heat?? I have found it helpful at times to put my hands in a bowl of ice cubes/iced water and also put my feet/legs in a bath of cold water (ie sitting on the side of the bath)..

Hope you get some relief soon.
