Hi All

A few of you have asked what is my bionic bum is, well its basicaly a high power Tens mashine its full tital is Spinal cord stimulater and rather than having stick on pads and an exturnal power controler like a tens unit, the S.C.S is fitted internally with 2 wires with 8 eledtrodes on each wire, postioned in the space between the dura and the vertibry, and the wirers are then pluged into the battery and brains under the skin.

The vast majoarty of people have the battery/brain unit fitted round the front in the upper groine in the UK, I elected to have mine placed in my buttock instead which is more common in the USA and is not as envasive as you dont need extention leads and the healing time is faster.

The S.C.S unit is mainly used in people with cronic pain, and can be used in any part of the spine and is even being used as a treatment for server migrane suffers, in my case its been fitted to help treat cronic pain and to counter missfiring nerves in my back, due to a failed back op about 8 years ago, and allso to help with the pain from OA in my lower back and legs.

The battery/brain unit is radio controled via a hand held unit, which can control each lead speratly the only down side to it is you have to have the battery changed every 3 to 4 years, and its not a cure but on saying that its been 7 weeks since I had the implant fitted, and I have inproved so much to compaired to before I was lucky to walk 500 yards now i can manage 3 to 4 times as far, I still suffer for it for a few days after but even this is has inproved, with less pain and I dont seem to size up as much as I did before it was fitted,

If any one is offered the S.C.S/ Nuro stimulater dont turn it down it will make a massive inpacked on your life as it has on mine, if any of you are offered it you will have to attened a 2 week course and stay at St Thomas's for the duration of the course, But its well worth it.

Gosh Tony.that is amazing, did you say you had it done in the USA, or have I misread it.
I am really interested in it, anything that means the pain is controlled somewhat, and also having to take less meds.
    Thankyou for sharing that
    Love to you and Karen

    Hi Tony,

Glad to hear that one.. it was one of the things they rejected for mine. they also were looking at the one that blocks the nerves completely.... I met someone with that and it sounded quite good.....

He was in to have it turned up as it only lasted 3 months. I was deemed an unsuitable candidate..... but keep us posted on this could you please? Cris x

    Hi Tony,

I'm glad you've explained your bionic botty - I was imagining all sorts to do with toileting and wires and your own internal bidet   My mind's at rest now I know the position of your battery

Really hope it helps with the pain you must have been suffering very much to go to such lengths, makes me glad I can just swallow a few pills.

Right put your nurses uniform back on now I can hear Karen calling.

    Take care
    Love, Legs x
