Hello all and apologies for my absence. I have been reading, I promise. I've been bogged down with work but it's easing up now.

I need to find some motivation from somewhere. I must do my 'range of movement' hand exercises once a day. I brushed it off last summer because I didn't think it was a big deal. I said; "my arthritis isn't that bad, I'll be fine!" Some months later, I see a specialist rheumy physio and she notes reduced movement in my joints. It's particularly bad in my wrists and hands but my ankles aren't great either. I did my exercises today and was shocked at how the exercises I could do before, I can't do now. Staring at the sheet of paper isn't going to make things better. I should be older and wiser, having turned 23 yesterday, but in a week's time, no doubt I will be complaining that it's too uncomfortable and painful. It isn't overly pleasant but I have to push through a little bit. How do I keep up my motivation? I have lots right now but it tends to lag.

Feel free to (online!) slap me if you catch me saying I've missed my exercises for a day!
Sophie xx

    Hi Sophie,

I will never slap you honest flower

I do know that the better your muscle tone the less it hurts and also the easier it can be to get your body to move so well done and I hope you will find it all goes well and helps.

Hey maybe we could start an exercise club? Cris x

    SSSSSSSS-LLLLLLLLL-A PPPPPPPPPPP!
    Only kidding mi deary...... Lol
I hate the whole hand exercises business, I'll be totally honest, since coming home with the sheet of exercises for my hands & wrists I've not done them more than a dozen times :???:  I think I got the sheet last November or summat... So, please slap me back..
I think what put me off doing them is that they dint seem to improve any of the pain, gave some strength back, just a bit but I think I've given up altogether with them now.. Physio girl did say using the keyboard should be good for my hands, thing is it hurts too much after a few minutes...
Yep, I know.... Do the exercises!!

Thank you all the messages! xx

My family have joined me in doing the exercises in the evenings. My mum has slight OA in her hands, so it's good for her too. ;) I really appreciate the moral support.

I feel more positive than I did a couple of days. I'm looking into going to swimming at a local pool that specialises in dealing people with disabilities and thus, is a warm temperature. I'll also be able to get a reduced rate, which is an added bonus as I'm a poor student.

My goal is to be able to make a decent fist again by the summer!
