Been really stupid

I've been on Humira for a year now , using the epipen. I just stab it in my leg as I can;t reach my stomach. Anyhow, a friend of mine has just started, and she was telling me how the nurse emphasised the importance of moving the site of the injection around, so I thought I'd try to the side of my left leg for this next one.

So, I placed it in position, pushed the button, felt the needle go in, and yet when I took it away after the count to ten, a lot a liquid ran down my leg. I don't think I got much, it certainly didn't react like it normally does. So, how long should I leave it before having another go? I'm only on four weekly, so I feel I need it, and have increased my pred. slightly. Very cross with myself, obviously the angle was all wrong, and the money!

Susan, ticked off.

    Hi Susan,

Oh its easily done but the trouble is you don't know how much you might have got, if any.

I would get some advice but I suspect they will say leave it til your next one is due unless you know you got none at all.....

I also think go back to doing it where and how you usually do flower cus if it works why change? I know they told me to change the mtx site but its never in exactly the same place even if its in the same area so.....

I would get some advice NHS direct might be able to help or wait till Monday and ask your rumo nurse but don't re-do it unless you know none went in with out asking first. You take care ad nice to see you again. Cris x

    Oh Susan

This is a tricky one as no-one knows how much you have missed do they?

But we can all make mistakes....we are only human after all.

Suggest you contact someone first thing Monday morning for advice - rheumy nurse or GP (not so good!!).

Certain you will not be the first person this has happened to

    Hi Susan
You certainly aren't stupid, gosh I would be the worlds worst at doing this, I salute you for doing it in the first place.
Sorry I cant offer any advice, but has the others have said, you should ask for advice off your rheumy, good luck with it all.

Thanks everyone! I guess you are all right and I'll ring the Rheumy in the morning. Trouble is it's only weeks since my sister cleaned out my fridge and accidently left the Humira injection, which was still in it's Boots bag so she didn't know what it was, on the side to get nice and hot. They'll think I'm being very wasteful.

And I'll stick to the top of my leg in future!

I think sites have to be moved around if you are taking a deal of meds. When I was on enbrel that was two injections a week, so yes I had to alternate between thighs and stomach. My humira is fortnightly so I alternate between left and right hand sides of the stomach. As you are monthly I think you could stick to the same site without any trouble but check with your rheumatology nurse, just to be sure. I wish you well. DD

Thats not stupid at all, Im a wimp never did it in my legs my thighs are way way way too sensitive I just moved mine around my belly left right left right its big enough not to hit any of the same spots twice anytime soon  I too have leaked meds mine was methotrexate which is so not good as its cytotoxic so had to do clean up after as well  I pushed it in and as I withdrew the needle the MTX came out after its happened a few times I now leave the needle in a minute or so before withdrawing and that seems to work. I think its my body saying urghh dont want that in me
Dont know about the dose being less or lost though so you would have to ask your nurse about that. I just left it as its MTX and I have often had to do without due to infections anyway.

Hope you get sorted and go easy on yourself there are loads of people on this forum and at the hospitals that go to the nurse at hospital or GP to have their injections at least youre having a go yourself.

    Take care
    Theresa

    Hello Susan,
I’m sure they will not think any the worst of you, I’m positive you will not be the first or the last to have hic up’s.

Did you manage to get through to your rheumy nurse?
Hopefully you will be ok if you have missed half of the normal dose just this once.
