DONE AT LAST

Hi All,
Came home Sunday after having knee revision done at last. Date was brought forward as "kit" would have had to go back if not used. ("sell by date" perhaps?
Anyhow Surgeon not too happy that I had complained to him about delay but is replying through the complaints procedure so he is making it official.
He did bring me the old prosthesis to see as promised and IT WAS BROKEN. The upper part had snapped and the sharp edge left had chewed through the plastic spacer pad and had just attacked the lower metal section on the Tibia. He had to agree I was justified in complaining about the pain in the joint. Neary three years on a broken leg is not good. S says that the new bits are a better design and protect my own bones. One thing I'm happy about is that there is not a problem with my bones causing any bone loss. Only other difficulty was almost impossible to get Vegetarian food in hospital so have had to complain about that too.
Just got to get better now.
Best wishes, Alun

I am glad to hear that you have had the revision done at last - let's hope it all works better now! Don't be a-feared of complaining or using the channels that are there to do so - surgeons are only human, they do make mistakes, do get things wrong, they are most definitely NOT the demi-gods they like to think they are. You were right, he was wrong, simples. Take care and I wish you well. DD

    Hi Alun
Gosh that is awful, the pain must have been horrendous, 3 years is totally unacceptable.
I am glad you have complained, it will hopefully help other in the future..then again it might not
I do hope that things look up from now on, fingers crossed for you, and let us know how you are doing.

    Hi Alun

l reckon it was a 'best before' date

Totally scary that mistakes can be made like that these days

I am glad it has been fixed finally and hope you are feeling well now??

l also 100% agree how justified you are in making your complaint official.

Love and best wishes for a speedy recovery

    Hi Alun

So pleased for you that you have at long last had your knee revision done. That was far, far too long to have to wait though. You have every right to put in a complaint. I hope some good comes out of it for you. Yes, hospital food is not good at the best of times and asking for vegetarian food is probably just too much for them to deal with.

I wish you all the very best,

    Elna x
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Thanks all for input. Physio came from hospital yesterday as is happy with progress, good bend and straightening etc. Lots of exercises to do so hard work to come. Bit down today as had to have our old dog PTS. Her legs had finally given out(old age) and we and vet decided that she had had enough with no hope of getting better.
    Thanks again,
    Al

Hi Al, blimey fancy them not realising how desperately you needed the revision. Great that you have finally had it done though and now can focus on the rehab. Sounds like the physio has set you lots of homework!

Sorry to hear about your poor old dog.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Al, sorry to hear about you dog it is no wonder you are down today it sounds like she had a good long life.
It good news about your knee, it must have been agony having it like that for so long.
Don't feel bad about complaining you were right to and it may stop someone else having to go through the same thing.

Good luck with the physio and a speedy recovery
