Never had this before, the Gabapentin has stopped some of the neurological pain since I've been on it but now I'm 2 weeks into a constant aching in both knees and thighs typical of what i would call OA, oddly it's different to before, normally it's more painful but for less time then it goes calm for a few weeks or so then starts up again but this is just a constant tinnitus aching that goes on and on, is this it now I ask??, will it always be like this?, I can't take CoCodamol as it clashes with the Gabapentin so I have Paracetamol and Ibupufen (sorry about the spelling!) but they don't stop it very well, surfice to say I am gettig a tad concerend and p&^sed off right now.

    Hi Mell

    Oh dear.......???

Has the doc said to leave off the co-cos? and are you finding SOME help from the gabapentins?

Have you tried (I know this sounds pathetic, but it really CAN help) trying a hot water bottle or an ice pack??

    Love

Hi Mell, sounds like the gabapentins worked in the beginning? DO you think you have overdone it as a result and are now paying the price?

If not I think you need to get back to the doc and try a rejig of the old meds.

Heat has always helped my OA pain.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Mell, I take Gabapentin with co-dydramol i did find when the gp upped the gabapentin the pain in my leg was a bit better but then i noticed more pain in my hip, i wondered if the pain in my leg was masking the other pain, sort of the worst pain stands out and when it is calmed dow another one takes it;s place.
I did wonder if you had been overdoing it i know i do when i feel a tiny bit better i think whopee and then regret it for days after.

Hope things settle down for you soon

Constant aching sounds about par for the course. It's good that the gab is helping some of it, but as we all know pain dulllers only do that, they never take it all away, they only take off the sharpest edges. Hopefully you will be able to find something else that you can add in to help, mell, I really hope so. Constant pain is wearying, tiring, even exhausting. Take care. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

why cant you take cocodomols with gabapentin :?: they are 2 different types of pain killers. When i was on gabapentin I was allowed to take cocodomols and tramadols. Think you need to ask about this :?: :?:

hope you can sort it out soon and get relief from the pain

Hi Mell, I take Gabapentin and although it works for some pain area's it doesn't work for all! It maybe a case that you need to go back to your GP and tell them about the knee pain and may need another med that will work with the gabapentin to increase the pain relief and help you. Hope you get it sorted soon and you find some good pain relief. Let us know what you do and the outcome. Amanda, (bubbadog).

    Hi Mell,

    late again here, sorry.

The constant pain comes in with stage 3 oa I am afraid. I can't remember if its a different pain to stage 2 or not cus it was so long ago now.

It could be the tendons and ligaments though... has the gp come up with any ideas other than the oa? I guess they don't well in my case if my head fell off they would say its the arthritis

The gabapentin's I don't know about but its a shame you couldn't get o eith the pregabs. They are stronger and work better but by that fact mess with your head so much more! Fingers crossed it will back down a bit for you Mell. ((( ))) and a hope Cris xx
