Hi all,

Been to the GP today about my chest and I have to do a lung function test next week, checking for possible asthma or lung damage, maybe caused by smoking. I was a social smoker but never had much of a social life since R.A kicked in and haven't smoked at all since Sept 4th last year so it will be ironic if it was caused by cigs.
My glands are up which is indicative of fighting something. Good news is I can go back on the MTX and Humira immediately.

Hoping you all have a good day.

Elizabeth

Hope it goes well for you (whatever 'well' may be in this case) next week, Elizabeth.

I think there's a lot of asthma about on this forum and, for me at least, it's no big deal and easily controlled.

Hope the meds kick in again soon.

Thank you SW, Toni and Julie. I actually hate the idea of this test, I hate anything to do with mouths. i have a phobia so it might be an upsetting test. The nurse is lovely, I saw her while booking the appointment, but I still feel panicked.

Hi, Good luck, I hope all goes well for you. Did you say its your GP doing the test? Anyway if you feel you can, ring your GP or whoever and tell them about the phobia, they may be able to give you something to help. I understand in a way, I have always hated the tounge sticks (or whatever they're called, yuk) and my Mum told the doctor when I was little and he showed me how to put my tonge so he didn't need to do much and used a spoon!!! Love Sue xxx

Elizabeth, I've just realised that the test they do on me every year for my asthma is probably the 'lung function test'. If so, all it involves is you blowing down a tube to see how hard you can blow. They tend to take the best of 3. So really the mouth's not much involved - sort of. Definitely not in a 'dentistry' kind of way.

    Hi Elizabeth

Good to see they are looking after you and yes as sticky says you only have to blow down a tube and it usually is best of three so you get the hang of it, so try not to be worrying about it lovey. I did it some time ago as part of a medical research thingy. Well done on the giving up smoking it can only help.Wish I could! Glad you can get back on the meds and hope you are starting to have some better days there.
take care and let us know how you doing?
    love

Elizabeth, goodnews that you can go back on humirs and MTX immediately.
I have had the lung function test and if it is the same one they do a few different machines that you blow into if i remember correctly one you blow quickly to see how much you can puff the next you breathe out for as long as you can they don't mess about with your mouth just ask you to blow into various machines.

Hope you are ok Maddie and myself with be with you in spirit for the test.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I know the peak flow from my daughter. I'm not sure if this is what the test is. I go on for an appointment then wait 20 mins then go back for a second appointment. It is the nurse who will be doing the test and it is something to do with paper because she said they had run out of paper and were trying to source some more. She would call me if she couldn't find any by friday. The test begins with S but they took away the paper with it written on when sorting the appointment for me.

The GP laughes at my feeble attempt at sticking out my tongue and opening my mouth! I am hopeless.

Hi Chris. I never really smoked a lot, only when going through the divorce(my ex became a smoker at this point too)! I just liked a smoke when out and about . It is not so easy now you have to go outside to smoke.

i have had my lovely humira injection, my anti-sickness pills and will take my MTX tomorrow. I missed them.

I think the meds help with the pain and swelling but make the symptoms worse as I have already started to notice this.
There is nothing I can do until Friday so will just have to stay focused until then.
