What a horrible doctor he was. By the way i was referred to the hospital by my GP who thought i had blepharitis, previous to that my optician said dry eyes due to arthur.
Anyway the doc....very clinical......talked to himself as he went through everything ...not to me.
He really hurt me at times.....put a needle in my eye [both eyes to be precise] to drain the tear ducts which didnt need draining...that was really sore...other things he did were uncomfortable and at the end I got a prescription for a nose spray and thats it ....wasnt going to tell me any more.
Thats one thing i've learned from this forum and from arthritis courses......ASK ASK ASK....I think he thought I was one of these people that thought doctors were little gods to be obeyed without question.
So I said to him {nicely} whats the diagnosis?
Diagnosis? to many things wrong to give you a diagnosis
I said well what have you found and whats the nose spray for. He then said the inside of my nose was inflammed and because of that the tear ducts were probabley inflammed as well....he couldnt tell.
I then said Whats the prognosis?
Prognosis? Prognosis? What do you mean prognosis???
I was tempted to say I'll get a medical dictionary and show you what it means but for once I didnt
I just said is it chrounic or not?
Of course its chronic!!! As far as i was concerned there was no of course about it.......he hadnt told me anything so it could have been something that would clear up.....Horrible horrible man
OK Sorry Rant over :P

Hi Hileena,
What a nasty doctor you had, I certainly would'nt want to go back to him. Lets hope that you get a specialist appointment come through first. I think you have been very brave.

Hi Hileena
What a horrenduous appointment. So pleased that you stood your ground and asked him questions. Good on you. You do have a sense of humour and I have to admit that you made me laugh, the way you told us about it although he sounds a horrible human being. We do need a sense of humour, I think so anyway, otherwise we could get really bogged down.
I hope you never have to see this guy again but if you do, you will sure be ready for him, won't you?
Keep smiling,

Gosh Hileena
Hes not a rheumy has well is he....sounds like the one I saw....I think that some of them see themselves above any question your there to do has your told.
If only they could be in the same position and see what it feels like
Anyway you did your best, and maybe he will turn out to be a really good consultant.
I do hope its the next appointment is good, and they soon get it sorted for you.
Good Luck

Blimey Hileena, what a truly horrible appointment. Oooh needles in the eyes ..... made my eyes water just reading about it. I would definitely ask to see another doc next time and when you have been discharged make some sort of complaint. Having things done to your eyes is scary especially if the doc is not talking you through and explaining as he goes.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Hileena, I think this is medical-speak for "I haven't a clue."
Good for you to stand up to him as you did. I, too, hope you get a different guy next time. Meanwhile, ask your GP for his report. He must have sent him one. You might get to find out a bit more.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

How AWFUL Hileena!
Mind you l am proud of you asserting yourself as you did.
Ask your GP for the letter he will have to send to him....the GP will be able to explain for you.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your support.....he was the consultant believe it or not....thank goodnes an eye one that I hopefully wont have to see very often....not an orthopaedic one or rheumy LOL
So maybe it will be his registrar I see the next time.....actually the nose spray he gave me {steroid} gave me a headache and I used it the day I got it and the next day and my head was really sore......anyone who has headaches knows the different kinds.....cant put a name to it but this wasnt a normal one so I stopped using the sprayand i've been fine since......I'll try it again and if the headaches start again that will be it but I suppose i better make sure it was the nose spray doing it.
Sorry its taken me a while to get back but was in Harrogate all day......Peter goes to an Exhibition once a year.....nuts, bolts, screws, gadgets....BORING!!! so I always go with him but hit the shops for about 3 hrs while he is there.......I was on the scooter this year.....not as easy as walking....having to find out where the drop down pavements are etc but it was a good day
Love
