Hi all

For those who dont know me I have major problems with the NHS where I live and have been practically left to get on with it since I was diagnosed with Sero-Negative Arthritis and can never get any info from anyone when I have a problem / question!

Anyway, I had my bloods taken on Wednesday of this week and have just had my blood book returned. Although my CRP (52) and ESR (73) level have increased there not back to where they where when I started so i can accept that

What im worried about is my ALT level and ALP level in my Liver function. To be totally honest im not sure of "normal" levels as I have never had the tests explained to me however I have received my book back with the following
ALT 62
ALP 106

The person who has inputted my results has put stars next to these results and highlighted them, however they have not said why they have done this and have put a scrappy bit of paper in to say have my bloods re done 25th May.

Although the above may be nothing to worry about it was quite alarming to see them highlighted with no explaination as to why, and seeing as its a Saturday Im now gonna worry about it until Monday that is if I can actually get hold of anyone to speak to which never happens!

Im due to go back to see my consultant on 23rd May but knowing the type of person I am if I dont find out if i should be alarmed by the results Im gonne end up stressing myself out and causing more flare ups!

Im rather annoyed that im just supposed to accept the results and supposed to understand them when I have no medical background and have had no explaination as to what to expet from these results.

Really sorry to go on and vent but that brick wall i keep hitting is really starting to hurt now

Poor you, that brick wall is very big. I can't help you as I have OA. But I just wanted to say how awful it must be for you at the moment and I am sending out big hugs. I am wondering where you do live to have such problems

If they were really worried about the results I reckon you would have been summoned back for more tests immediately. My ALT hit 600 plus when I was on enbrel and I felt absolutely fine. I think the ALT is acceptable at anything up to 50, then they start getting worried, but your level mustn't be raising too many concerns. As to the other, I have no idea what it means but again, if they were were really bothered you would have been called straight back.

I think they have flagged it up as something to monitor, not something to worry about. Don't fret - if you feel ill then yes, contact someone, but if you don't that's a good thing! We are not doctors, we don't necessarily understand about levels and measures, I think the booklet itself gives some explanantions about these things - I read mine once, ages ago! I wish you well. DD

Thanks im a bit of a worry wart to say teh least so when summet like this happens I get a bit over anxious!

Ive checked my book and it has no information relating to the tests or levels think thats why im a bit like i am if the book provided some information then it would but peoples minds at rest!

Ill have to grin and bear it until Monday when I can get hold of someone and see if they can shed any light on it.

My booklet has the info at the back, it lists some of the tests, the normal values and explains what the test is for. It has Methotrexate treatment on the front cover, info about meth, then pages for the tests and the results and then the other stuff at the back. It's produced by the National Patient Safety Agency and has www.npsa.nhs.uk on the back, that might give you some info. I honestly don't think you need to worry - if there were any real concern they would have called you back in pronto - well that's what they do where I am, I am cheerfully assuming it's the same elsewhere! Take care. DD
